To date, as clients of Attorney Russell Rosenthal; a BOSTON attorney who READILY and nearly IMMEDIATELY drove cross state to Western Massachusetts from Boston, upon receiving our random call to him regarding our Personal Injury case, to visit with us FOR OUR INTAKE ALONE with him (there were no promises of agreement for representation at that point, so a rare and kind gesture, indeed, on HIS part AND as a Boston attorney.) He heard us out FULLY, KINDLY, and with a seeming rare, almost innate, sense and sensibility of US AS PEOPLE, e.g. he simply seemed to just "get us," and our needs, for lack of a better way to describe his sensitivity and overall broad skill sets as an Attorney AND a human being. Attorney Rosenthal clearly possesses a brilliant mind as an attorney such that we have rarely BEFORE ENCOUNTERED. He both accepted our Case, and since that time many months ago now, has remained as personable, down-to-earth, and in touch with US and our case as he stated that he would at the time of our first meeting. Further, his paralegal, Carlene, seems to reflect all of Attorney Rosenthal's best traits as a professional AND as a person. Though our case is far from over, so far, everything that Attorney Rosenthal stated he would and COULD get done for us HAS OCCURRED just as he stated- to include some seeming difficult legal maneuvering, thus instilling in us, his clients, a sense of trust and assurance that our case will ultimately be resolved in the most optimal manner. No matter where you might reside in Massachusetts, it seems that this wonderful Boston attorney, Russell Rosenthal, would be perfectly happy to come to YOU, then despite any physical distance, stay in regular contact with you via all current forms of the latest technologies available to him to stay in touch with one as his client/s; to keep you informed of any new and/or "need to be known" information regarding your case; up-to-date as far as current/more distant timelines go; and, best of all, makes himself available to you (us) with a mere phone call or text to him. In closing, we would not hesitate ONE IOTA to STRONGLY recommend this most personable, intelligent, and highly skilled attorney, Russell Rosenthal, and/or his team, who, for us to date, has ensured that we feel we are getting the best legal advice and positive actions that we could possibly have hoped for as clients. We are strongly confident, that no matter WHERE you reside in Massachusetts, Attorney Russ Rosenthal is the BEST choice you can make under the umbrella of the Law wherein he practices. For us, that would be as our Personal Injury Attorney.

Twice this year Attorney Richard Mable has represented our family in legal matters. As a business owner, I hired Atty. Mable to draft the appropriate legal documents for leasing an area within my Salon. I was under a time constraint and needed the document quickly. Atty. Mable promptly provided me with the document and charged me a reasonable fee. I was very pleased. He has also recently represented my daughter in a complicated divorce case. My daughter is disabled and his compassion as well as professionalism was instrumental in easing her concerns. Through his legal expertise the divorce was finalized successfully. I would highly recommend Atty. Mable for any legal issues. He is professional, intelligent and trustworthy.

I would highly recommend Gaizon Kotoni for legal representation on a divorce. We filed for a no-fault divorce and he did a fantastic job with the mediation and assistance through this process. He was very professional, timely with his delivering of paperwork and filing, and was extremely thorough with his explanation of the terms of agreement and process. This is never a fun situation to go through, but he made it very painless for us both.

I'll let you be the judge of Attorney Bombay, here's how my agreement for the Job with him went: I extended my need for a contract out to thumbtack.com for an upcoming business venture with another party. Jeremy was the first to respond to me and quoted me at $175 an hour, please see 'Bombard1' for the snippet of the conversation. Thinking this was a reasonable price, I agree to hire Jeremy for the contract. I then get sent a 'Fee Agreement' which has a clause that the 'Client agrees to pay $500 as an initial retainer', please see attached 'Bombard2' picture. Puzzled by this, I asked Jeremy for clarification and what the $500 fee was for. I was told that the initial consultation was not charged, and after that the $500 retainer would be applied to any outstanding balance. Please see 'Bombard 3' attached screen shot. Still thinking this is ludicrous, I went along thinking the $500 would be the cost of the whole thing. Not a great price at all, but at this point I really just needed the contract done. Jeremy calls me up on Memorial Day to get some information about what's needed in the contract. Says he should have something by the end of the week, I say no rush as my other party joining this is in the middle of a move herself and to just let me know when it's completed. Get another email from Jeremy asking for clarification for a few things, and then finally I'm hit with a $437.50 charge for Jeremy's time on this contract. This is where things get infuriating, as I spoke to several lawyers in the meantime whom informed me something like this should take an hour or two tops to make. Price all in should be around $250-$300 max. As you can see with these pictures, I ended up paying $937.50 after being quoted $175 an hour for the job. If we take Jeremy's original offer, he supposedly took 5 and a half hours to write this contract that he ended up giving me 3 weeks late. The icing on the cake is I was let go from my employer yesterday and am looking into legal matters for unpaid overtime this past winter. Jeremy informs me he does not handle termination suits, but refers me to his buddy who would 'Take good care of me'. After an initial half hour on the phone with his 'buddy' attorney, I'm quoted at $300 an hour for the job, told I probably don't have a case at all but should start writing a 'Demand Letter' and send it to him for his approval. Oh and just so I knew, Jeremy would likely be getting some piece of the supposedly tough to get the upcoming payout for a referral. Instantly declined this lawyer's service and said I do not want to move forward with him, then thought it would be best to share my experience with Bombard Law for anyone whom is considering hiring Jeremy for their legal needs.

I hired Attorney Merritt last November for a criminal defense case. It was the best decision I could have made. Steve was prompt, thorough, and professional. He got me through a very difficult time. He is now working with me on a family situation. This is a much slower process I am being kept up to date as necessary. By the way, Kristin is awesome, too.

Goode Law Office was very responsive and gave us a quick and fair quote for Real Estate sale work. Stephen put in the extra hours and is very professional. We greatly appreciate his knowledge and assistance and strongly recommend Goode Law Office for any Real Estate or Estate challenges. We only wish we had hired Goode Law Office earlier in the process. Don't trust a realtor, who suggests getting a lawyer after the P & S is signed, or one who represents both the seller and the buyer. Our realtor did both and is the seller-of-the-month several times over at Jack Conway Realty in Middleborough. Don't go there!

After working with Attorney Austin Andenmatten on two separate legal matters I would highly recommend hiring him. He was always accessible in a timely manor to answer any questions or concerns and accommodating with my full time schedule for meetings in person or on the phone. His rates are very fair and I wouldn’t hesitate to retain his counsel in the future should it arise.

My husband and I consulted with Dan about some financial problems we were having. It was a very embarrassing time for us. Dan treated us with dignity, and gave us good advice. We hired him to represent us as we went through a foreclosure and bankruptcy. Dan was always just a phone call or an email away, and he answered all of our questions in a timely manner. After everything was finalized, there was a creditor who kept harassing us with phone calls. Dan put an end to that quickly for us. We highly recommend Dan Gindes’s services. He knows the laws, and he’s professional, while being compassionate. Sincerely, Nancy and Mike Godin

I greatly appreciated a chance to work with this lawyer. I was in an unwanted divorce due to a big misunderstanding with my wife. My wife’s “warrior” attorney pushed me to hire a lawyer. (Be advised my wife’s attorney contradicted himself after by telling my wife I didn’t have to hire a lawyer when she sought his legal counsel further. That was absolutely not good and that made my wife think I wanted to challenge her marital power when hiring a lawyer as her attorney pushed.) When trying to find an attorney, I looked up through the internet and I found this lawyer. I decided to hire her after reading the prior client’s review. Through the private meeting and the provided legal forms that I was asked to fill out, I greatly appreciate the professionalism from this attorney, for ex., non-judgmental. Against the other attorney’s aggressive manner, she moved the divorce procedures cautiously and safely to give us a last chance to discuss our issue and to reconcile our differences if possible in a peaceful and civil manner. While keeping the communication line open with my wife for a possible reconciliation, I learned from my wife that her attorney wanted to expedite the divorce. That was a horrible thing to counter when a spousal was in a fragile moment of marriage if the divorce was not mutually agreed by both spouses. Thanks to this attorney‘s cautious move, I had a chance to call up the needed support to save our marriage. I highly recommend this lawyer for her ethical and professional performance.

I worked with Kate Morneau and her team on a family law issue. They helped me manage an otherwise very difficult situation. It didn’t seem to matter what happened; they knew the answers and were always several steps ahead of the curve. Their knowledge of the legal system and patience in explaining my options were invaluable to me. I would recommend the Law Office of Katherine J. Morneau to anyone requiring advice and counsel in their areas of expertise!

Very Pragmatic, sharp, responsive Through an odd course of events, I engaged Gabrielle to consult with me on my divorce action. She did not represent me as such, but rather reviewed my case and provided some guidance as it seemed rudderless. It may seem unusual to hire a second attorney, but for me it was money well spent. I found Gabrielle to very sharp, pragmatic and compassionate. She was able to piece through he rhetoric and get to the heart of the case. She had wisdom and confidence beyond her years. I settled with her assistance, and have no doubt that if I was not able to settle, I would have switched to her for trial, which thankfully did not happen. This process is broken. And the lawyers are the only beneficiaries of a failed and flawed system. Finding one you can trust is not easy. I highly recommend interviewing her for your case.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.
