I have been taking Western Horseback riding instruction from Dawne Wilson for approximately two years and in that period have gained the confidence to compete in horse shows and take on other types of riding without doubting my abilities. Dawne is the type of instructor that uses her unique ability to communicate not only with the the beginner rider such as myself but with those experienced riders that need to master more advanced techniques. Dawnes ability to match the rider to the horse combined with the flexiblity to allow a change in horses to maximize on identifing different temperments, form, gaits, etiquette and performance is most helpful. Dawne is also open to many requests, such as the day I wanted to ride English versus Western. She smiled and said ok....now that was a spur of the moment change and she has so much knowledge that it was no problem for her to switch gears and teach. I also must comment on the level of training of the horses, that she herself trained. They can be ridden in any style and even jumped...this is an asset that can only enhance your riding experience. With Dawne as my instructor, I have met or exceeded all my performance goals to date and now have more advanced goals to accomplish in the upcoming year. Although I have been plagued by some tough orthopedic injuries that have hindered my ability to ride, Dawne continues to allow me other avenues to learn and to remain in contact with the horses. She is person that continually will teach you, always make you feel good about your riding, but will always be honest about the level you are at and what you need to do to move forward. She is a pleasure to work with and she drives you to do better. Some of the phrases I would use to describe Dawne and her teaching ability are: Good Time Management Creative Talent Good at Planning and Goal Setting Problem Solving Training & Mentoring Skill to manage the horse extremely politely Teamwork Safety Conscious
I started working with Cathy a year ago, when a group of friends needed someone to fill in a lesson spot. I was mainly interested in riding my Canadian mare, MaeMae, as she is the one who responds well to lessons. After one lesson, I realized that my Canadian gelding, Dudley, who historically has hated ring work and being asked to do anything that is not his idea, would like Cathy's style. So I started lessons on both the following week. It has been a wonderful journey. I rode as a child, but hadn't had lessons since then. I needed help with my own riding as well as with asking my horses to do things. Cathy has an endless supply of expertise, yet she can discern in the first few minutes of a lesson what a horse needs and what the rider needs. She breaks things down into manageable chunks for my horses and I, yet challenges and pushes us at the same time. I have learned so much over the past year and look forward to learning so much more. Dudley -- the reticent one-- won two blue ribbons in his first dressage show this weekend. Two for two. Thanks to Cathy's instruction.
I like that Sara asked what my riding goals are right away. She puts the student first, not pressuring me to do more than I want. Very friendly, down to earth facility with great horses.
If you are looking for a fun, friendly, and educational place to be... you have found it! Great management, stunning horses, some of the best training around, and phenomenal horse care. As a professional in the field, I can say that this is one of the most realistic and entertaining places to be if you love horses. Never mind the great and large indoor!Due to the location there is some mud, but the stalls and huge grass paddocks for the spring and summer months makes up for that easy!
Cold Brook Stables has been my answer to all my equine needs. I am happily boarding my horse there; I take lessons and love to partake in their trail rides. I think they are perfect place whether you are the first time rider or been riding for years. I highly recommend giving them a visit.
Elaine is a great teacher, has a passion for what she does, and has a great love for horses. I had always enjoyed riding with her and listening to her past experiences. Nothing is better than having the great feeling of stress being relieved every time I would hop on their back and let them take me on a little journey. I hope who ever goes riding with her will experience the same. ;)
Rachael was very patient with my grandaughter's first riding experience. Rchael encouraged confidence by noticing and verbalizing the positive in alexandria's choices.
