As a business owner as well, we could not be more pleased with Laura's Professionalism, Expertise and Friendliness! If we could give Laura a 10 Star Review we would! This was our first time working with Laura. Our dog is 12 years old and is loosing his sight. In December of last year, we called our regular groomer that Cooper has been going to since he was 10 weeks old, but she was on Maternity Leave and was unable to groom him. Although he was very, very much overgrown and overdue for a grooming we decided to wait until our groomer returned from maternity leave and then decided that we should probably look for a new groomer that could come to our home due to Cooper's age and blindness. We found Laura though Thumbtack and she was the only one that contacted us right away. We live in Middletown and she lives in Coventry. We assumed that she would not be able to come all the way to Middletown, but to our surprise she already has many clients in Middletown and happily agreed to come. Within a couple of days we had our appointment set, and this is during Memorial Day Weekend. Laura arrived at our home at 10:15 a.m. with all her necessary equipment and finished grooming Cooper at 2:15 p.m. She was extremely thorough and gentle with Cooper; talking to him the entire time and taking her time with him. She even checked out his ears and low and behold Cooper had an infection going on in his right ear that we were not aware of. She took pictures of his ear and explained to us how we can clean out his ear better. She was Extremely informative! There was not one mark or bump on him that she noticed that she did not point out to us. She is hands down the BEST groomer we have ever had. Cooper has been with us since he was 8 weeks old and he is only and inside dog and very attached to us, so we could not be happier that we found Laura. You can tell that Laura not only does this for a job, but has a great passion for what she does. We really feel like we hit the Jack Pot!!! Thank you Laura for taking such great care in grooming Cooper and we are already looking forward to our next appointment and I'm sure Cooper is too!!!!

I would highly recommend Deborah for pet sitting services. You can tell she loves her job and her furry clients. Deborah took such great care of my dog Dixie and my friends dog Murphy while we vacationed for a week. I don't think they wanted to come home. They were quite tuckered out upon their return. Thanks Deborah for treating our dogs like they were your own!

Karen is wonderful with my dog! Usually after the initial meet & greet I prefer to be at the first few visits until I know my dog and the pet sitter are comfortable with each other. But my dog took yo Karen immediately and I was able to skip that step very comfortably. My dog fell in love with her instantly, and he is usually a very cautious dog. And as dog lovers know, we can trust their instincts. Karen has been so flexible and goes above & beyond. I'm so grateful I found her!

Kendra has been watching my dog Cooper for 5 years now. I can't think of enough good things to say about her!! It is such a relief to go on vacation and have her stay at our house. Not only does she give my dog excellent care, somehow my house is cleaner then when I left! On one particular trip as we were leaving my dog had a little cough, a couple of days later it got worse and Kendra took him to the vet, picked up medicine and made sure he was well. When we came home he was back to normal. Kendra is always reliable she has never once cancelled and has actually gone out of her way to help us out on last minute trips or emergencies. Most importantly is how much my dog loves her! I have recommended Kendra to many friends and all have been thrilled with her services.

Gail is very reliable, dog loving person. She provided me with 2 references which were a pleasure to speak with and they both gave her high praises on her reliability and care for their own pets.

Hello. I will walk your dog(s) on your schedule. I will come to you, walk your dog and bathe and brush, if and when necessary. I am a previous dog owner and a current dog lover. Thank you.

I walk dogs and I love animals. I was working at a hotel for the last seven years, the Ritz Carlton, but I find dog walking more rewarding.

I take great care, and I protect your dog. I make sure your dog gets picked up on time and brought back to you on time. You can count on me!

I offer dog sitting. I treat them as if they were my own. I have 5 dogs and 2 cats. I interview them to check if they gets along with my dogs and if they become one of the pack. They go out often. I have a large kennel with many acres of woods. They can sleep with me in the bed, if so desired.

My extreme love for all dogs makes me your best choice for your dogs needs. I believe that a happy dog is a good dog. All walking will be done on side streets where less traffic keeps dogs less stressed. Any training will be done within a fenced yard.

Trails of Tails is a dog walking and pet sitting business. Trails of Tails is great for people who love animals and have animals but do not have enough time to give their pets the right amount of exercise and play time outside. We are also here to take care of your pets when you go on vacation and need someone to care for them.

I started pet sitting for a neighbor about 10 years ago. She had two beautiful Rottweilers. My love for animals and connecting with them drew me into pet sitting now and then for neighbors and family friends. I've taken care of a handful of dog breeds, a cat, fish and a ball python. Before that, I graduated from an agricultural high school with a background in animal husbandry. It gave me a chance to handle all kinds of animals, from horses, cows and sheep to various reptiles and rodents. I worked at Petco many years ago, and that gave me more knowledge to help customers and help them provide the best animal care for their pets. I've been working in the customer service industry for a long time and haven't been able to exercise what I know or learned about animals. It's time for me to get back to what I love doing and making lasting connections with pets and their parents. I'm reliable, dependable and affordable. I have references from past and present clients.

Every trainer offers their own techniques, my primary goal is to make a great relationship between handler and pet. I'm very interested in guiding the handler to learn how to teach the dog to do a behavior because you asked not made him. Very big difference in a relationship.

I have over 20 years of progressive achievement as a pet groomer and dog sitter. I also specialize in dematting, cleaning teeth, and give medication to your pet.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
