Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Understand that every illustrator is different--hire one for their style, and what you like of their work.
Also understand that most illustrators are both adaptable and eager to create something amazing for you; style is malleable!
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Making artwork takes hours, sometimes days or weeks, depending. It's not an "overnight turnaround" sort of thing, so please be patient when commissioning complex works.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. One should look for people who're used to working with clients; they have experience meeting deadlines and asking the right questions to successfully complete a project.
Ask if they have a standard contract or commission agreement.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Do you know the industry standard cost for artwork-- have you looked at the Society of Illustrators, or the Graphic Artists Guild guidelines for pricing? It will give you a general idea what to expect.
Are you familiar with the style of the work you're interested in?
