FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing for developing construction documents...i.e., drawings, is based on a standard referred to as the Weight System. The "weight" of a drawing is the negotiated man-hours per sheet in the drawing set, multiplied by a quoted hourly rate. A professionally formatted set of drawings for presentation will include a cover sheet (first sheet), and may include additional sheets for details, materials, equipment, and specifications. A presentation drawing set is generally referred to as a design development and precludes the requirements for permits, bidding and construction. The content of these drawing sets must comply with local jurisdiction codes, for the protection of "Owners", in the construction phase of the project. When inquiring design/drafting quotes the Owner requirements should be firm about the phase to be developed by the designer/drafter.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
1. Renovation and new construction permit services for residential and commercial projects. 2. Renovation and new construction MEP/Architectural design services for residential and commercial projects. 3. Engineering, Design, and Drafting Services for Private, Commercial and Consulting firms. 4. LEEDS sustainability simulations and compliance reports for accreditation and awards.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
In our industry we have a saying, " One good drafting layout,,,is worth thousands dollars". Many professional designers, builders, and planners will wholeheartedly agree. With respect to the current economy...we suggest to you, that one the most cost effective resources, beyond Architectural input, is to outsource the coordination of your projects. Computer Aided resources can reduce your coordination budget to simple man-hour cost, with no further overhead.
