Joan is an amazing designer who also understands the business side. She has worked with me for years providing creative services for Fortune 500 companies. Joan is easy to work with, innovative, a great problem solver, and our clients love her!Jun 3, 2016
As a business consultant,I rely on Joan Cox of Peacox Design exclusively for all my design projects. She has the unique talent of shifting the style of her design to fit the client's project. In addition to her incredible creative sense she always enhances every design with promotional ideas that benefit my clients. Two examples of her extreme diversity in grasping and creating for totally different client profiles include : Virgil Harden and his Bluegrass band ... She developed a consistent image in multiple CD covers , Website and business cards . Another project was a brochure for a Caregiver Consultant an entirely different business. The design work was award winning . Another great quality that is a rare find in the industry is that Joan is so easy to communicate with and always goes the extra mile to get the project just right and finished in a timely manner Eileen Bleyer E L Bleyer Choice ConsultingJun 3, 2016
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Generally I like to have a phone call to discuss the overall scope of the project. I learn what the client needs and I ask question about the end user, or the call-to-action, or the purpose of the communication as well as questions about color likes and dislikes. I ask about what styles and overall appearance the work should have: corporate, creative, innovative, etc. Then I ask the client to email me particulars such as the exact wording for the project along with dates the items need to be designed or printed by. If needed, I create a timeline for the project so each party understands the overall project process. I always ask clients to send me examples of design or illustration they have seen that they either like or dislike so I can get a sense of their style. I then get started on the project and send several rough sketches or layouts followed by a call to discuss the options. I then refine or make edits based on client feedback, going back and forth a few times until the project is complete. I provide PDFs along the way but am happy to provide JPGs and PNGs or whatever file formats are needed.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have both BFA and MFA in painting and 2-D Art. I have 20 years experience as a graphic designer for large and small firms and am now managing my own clients and projects as a freelance designer and art director.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I was studying painting in college and applied for a summer job working for a full-color international trade magazine where I learned the complete process of page layout, design, ad placement, and traditional printing. I went on to be a senior designer and eventually art director for several companies while still pursuing my art practice as a painter.
