Private Professional Music Instruction
The Deffenbaugh House Of music offers professional piano, drums and guitar instruction in a safe and comfortable environment. With over twenty years of experience as a highly sot after teacher and professional musician Mark Deffenbaugh provides music instruction that is both fun and highly educational. Each lesson is geared to the individual students needs and taste. Weather you are interested in Classical Music Jazz Improvisation or you want to learn to play your favorite Popular Songs you will find this studio to be a wonderful experience. You will learn to play on a world class hand built German Piano surrounded by the latest in modern keyboard, drums, guitar, and percussion gear as well as computer music software, including a Moog Sub 37 Synthesizer.
Tuition is paid on a monthly basis and payments are due on or before the first lesson of each month based on the number of studio operational weeks within the studio calendar. The studio is in operation all year long with designated and announced studio breaks . Lessons are scheduled in half hour/forty five minute or hourly session increments.All lessons are private and on a one basis of instruction.
Students are responsible for all lessons for the calendar month.
Student may rescheduel lessons with 24 hour notice due to illness or family emergency.
1.Graded standard piano method and technical studies from primer,intermediate and advanced levels
2.Piano concert repertoire in classical,jazz,religious/gospel,rhythm and blues latin broadway ,movie and contemporary music genres
3.Music theory from beginner to advanced levels which includes transposition,chords,scales and arpeggios
4.Jazz improvisation and contemporary keyboard studies from beginner to advanced levels
5.Early childhood instruction (from four years of age) and instruction to children with special disabilities

I interviewed pretty much every music teacher in Alexandria before deciding to go with Mark. There are two types of music teachers I've found - amateur musicians who play guitar in their own band and think they can teach any musical instrument, and professional music teachers who don't have a lot of musical authority.
Mark is a musical authority - a professional musician, with solid credentials, and he's an excellent teacher. I really feel like I'm training from a master and not just from an old-fashioned teacher who's stepping me through an instruction routine.
He's been able to bring me up to speed on piano very quickly with no pressure. He explains musical techniques and concepts so that they're clearly understood and easy to learn.

Mark Deffenbaugh is an awesome instructor! I have been taking lessons from him for four months now and he is turning me into one great pianist. He teaches theory, techniques and posture. I am really blessed and fortunate to be a student of Deffenbaugh House of Music!

I have been taking piano lessons from Mark for the last 6 months and it has been a fantastic experience! He is very friendly and patient and he absolutely knows what he is doing. He has a love and passion for music which he will share with you as you grow as a musician. He is very flexible and accommodating when it comes to scheduling or rescheduling your lessons. I would highly recommend Mark Deffenbaugh for any music lessons you need.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with a trial lesson. This gives me a chance to see what kind of experience the student has and where we need to start. Each student has individual goals, taste and experience. All of these need to be accounted for when deciding on a course of study.
