Great craftsmanship, professional, and easy to communicate with. Worked with my schedule to complete the project according to my timeline. My bed was put together perfectly, and headboard mounted into masonry. I find a common theme amongst contractors in that they don't clean up after themselves, leaving saw dust and waste materials for the home owner to clean. While I did have to do some fine tuning in the cleaning department, Trenton did at least attempt to clean up the area by picking up and disposing of the larger waste pieces. I would definitely hire him again.

Kelvin did a great job repairing the textured ceiling drywall after a pipe burst causing water damage. He was able to repair the ceiling drywall and also matched the textured ceiling up nicely. I would recommend him for repairs like this in the future.

Erick and his team are exceptional. I contracted Erick initially to do some minor house repairs. However, after not being satisfied with the work of contractor hired to paint, I asked Erick to do a lot more work to include painting, installation of kitchen appliance, replace flooring, miscellaneous carpentry, and electrical work. Erick was so responsive to my need to get the work done quickly as getting ready to list house. Quality of work is good, Erick knows his trade and made suggestions and recommendations that proved to be invaluable. His team are hard workers and take pride in what they do. And, the pricing is exceptional. Definitely recommend and will use again in the future.

I hired Garry for carpet installation, which he did expertly. But he ended up doing so much more. Once he understood I was preparing my house for sale, he had so many practical suggestions and access to many good experts in various areas, including interior painting, and a first rate hard wood floor man. His prices were very good and his work was always timely and high quality. So, he is not only a great carpet man, he also has access to good people and can do a wide variety of work himself. He did good work with gardening, exterior painting, drywall work, touch-up painting, deck staining, and minor woodwork. Pictures of some of his work is available at mrishomes.com listing MLS#AA8669749.

This was our second time using Thumbtack and it was a great experience. We received multiple quotes for drywall work in our kitchen and bedroom to repair damage from a plumbing leak. The Langway brothers provided the best quote and had the experience and reviews to make us comfortable using them. We had guests coming in town so even though it was the holidays they rearranged their schedule and managed to come the very next day. Paul Langway performed the work and exceeded our expectations. In addition to doing a spotless repair job he also fixed some of the underlying issues which were not part of the original quote. He kindly did this free of charge. To have a contractor stick to their original quote and then do work above and beyond without charging more is pretty rare these days. It was also a pleasure to meet Paul and have him in our home as he is a great guy with which to interact. We will definitely use them again.

Jorge did an awesome job on my staining and painting project. Bonus points for working around the other contractors who were putting in pavers and fixing concrete work on site. I feel I got an excellent price. And finally I was impressed that he kept me updated. He did everything right. Great job. Will call again.

Cristian and Luis were responsive, reliable and hard-working. I had to have a bathroom remodel finished very quickly and they were able to start immediately and completed quickly. Also, the estimate was very reasonable. I had asked for some extra work and they were accommodating and when the total bill came, they were spot on with the actual cost compared to the estimate and the extra work added to the bill was very fair. It’s difficult to find a good dependable handyman that you feel comfortable working with, and I found this in C&L. I already have other projects with which, I will be asking for their services. The work they did for me was drywall and tiling of floor and walls of a full bathroom and extensive drywall repairs in other areas of the home.

Jorge and his crew did a fantastic job renovating our entire basement. We had extensive water and mold damage, and the entire basement had to be gutted by a mold remediation company. After all the mold was removed, Jorge cleaned and put up new drywall, installed new cabinetry and countertop, flooring, did a great job repainting, installing doors and many other tasks. Throughout the process he was courteous, professional, and always had a can-do attitude. He worked in a timely manner and his pricing was competitive. We will be using him again and we definitely recommend him.

I was looking for someone last minute to help my senior citizen parents take down and then reinstall professional blinds that were already in place so that new windows could be inserted. Marcial arrived on time the next day in the heat of the window madness. What was just supposed to be blind take down turned into him fixing drywall around a bathroom heater, painting over spots the builder missed, fixing the electric to the security system the window guys took apart, getting rid of the awful noise the dishwasher was making, and probably more things than we even know. They even discussed the driveway. Marcial is a one stop shop. He's a contractor, a professional, and personable. Don't think, just book him!!

What a great experience to work with a contractor with real knowledge!! Mr. Garcia goes above and beyond to make sure projects are done as they should be. I would recommend his family business to anyone. He can take care of small and large projects. Hard to find honest hard working people now a days.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
