Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I strongly encourage you to visit the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) or the ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) and look at their documentation on hiring Architectural Photographers. I can send it to you directly as well, if you'd like as I am accredited with PPA. The documents have a lot of very useful information on questions to ask, what to expect and how to ensure a solidly organized photo shoot.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. When all is said and done, what do you need the final photos for? Submission into magazines? Presentation to clients? In-House marketing use?
My services come with a pre-determined number of file licenses. It helps me provide an accurate estimate if you already know what you need and how many files you need. Please consider this while planning your shoot; and of course I will help walk you through this when we speak!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I was pleased to complete a large scale marketing campaign for Cornerstone Marketing, in Columbia. The client was a residential group home in Frederick MD. Spec was two houses, interiors and exteriors as well as tourism shots of Frederick City Life. I got to spend two days just wandering around the city and photographing the people, places, and things that make Frederick what it is! The home shoots went so smoothly it - it was awesome! One property is a Historic Location, so the decor was just amazing; all original woodwork and details. I love walking into a location on the scouting trip and just being blown away by the appearance!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Real Estate Photography: Priced between $175-$350 per shoot based on size of home.
Commercial Photography: Day Rates + Licensing. Please inquire.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. If you are looking to enter the Architectural Photography field my biggest piece of advice is DO NOT SCRIMP ON EQUIPMENT. You are only shooting yourself in the foot if you buy a middle of the road camera body, or a lower priced lens. Sure you'll save money upfront but your backend processing time with be exponentially increased. This applies to all fields of photography as well.

Jessica Patterson Photography has invested tens of thousands of dollars into photographic equipment, and continues to upgrade when necessary.
