Type of work
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I am a detail-oriented person and I enjoy the process of editing and proofreading for small changes. I also enjoy the feeling of helping someone else's work come to completion and helping their words and ideas take the best form that they can. If you can't tell that I've been there, but the work looks great, then I'm doing my job right.

Rebecca worked with me to proofread an academic paper focusing on qualitative research in educational settings. Her attention to detail--obviously important for proofreading--exceeded my expectations. She also spotted a few stylistic things that I had completely missed. She was also flexible and able to work with a fast-turn around time. I will definitely be using her services again.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I have a tiered system of pricing that is in accordance with the recommendations of the Editorial Freelancers of America: Heavy copy editing, usually the first copy edit: $40 Moderate copy editing: $35 Light copy editing: $30 Proofreading, the last step, usually after typesetting but before the manuscript is sent to the printer: $25 I usually determine what level the manuscript is at with a complimentary sample edit.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always spotted grammatical and writing errors everywhere I went. This is just where my talents seem to lie, and it has the added benefit of being helpful to other people. I love books, writing, and words, and this job allows me to work with those in a variety of contexts.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I most frequently perform copy edits and proofreading--the last few stages of the project where small-scale changes need to be made, not large-scale revisions and content editing.
