We inherited our house from my parents and I was looking for ideas and ways to bring it up to todays' standards and styles. I requested NWT Services to come out and look over our home to give us their thoughts on ideas to make our home, our home! The technicians not only presented us with some good ideas, but when they put it all into working perspective we were blown away! We had them finish our basement, remodel our kitchen and remodel our bathrooms, and also some general items in rest of home. I have dealt with contractors in the past, but Nick and his company are different. By that, they are of the caring nature, they get the job done, are clean, punctual, professional, honest and also are not expensive. They treated us and our home with respect. These are things that are lost amongst many contractors. I could tell that whoever taught them their line of work, taught them the right way. I would highly recommend for any project, large or small. We will always call them back for anything we need done.

Another excellent experience with Fenton Sewer & Drain. Travis and crew have taken care of our plumbing needs for over 3 years! New guy Tyler was professional and took care of snaking out my clogged sink drain, and then checked to confirm other drains didn't have any problems. Too many times you hear horror stories about plumbers but not about these guys! We are completely satisfied!

After reviewing three contractors, I went with Nicholas and Anthony, his tile guy. He did an amazing job! Anthony was a pure perfectionist and neat in his work and gave me exactly the look I wanted for a backsplash and fireplace surround. Oh yeah, he sanded some windows and repainted the trim. Windows look brand new!! Will definetly use ADRM again for other jobs I need done around the house in the near future! The price wasn't the cheapest, but wasn't the most expensive either. Nicholas gave me a fair price for great work, what more can you ask for?

Tom is the best. OI have hired him in the past to redo and extend an old deck which turned out fantastic! Now he is in the process of finishing my basement and I am thrilled with the framing work he did in the 1250 sq foot space. I will definitely continue to hire Tom as not only are his costs reasonable, he always call me back and shows up on time. When i have tried to hire out other handyman or contractors its been the opposite. A lot of no shows or half done work that I they never call me back and go dark.

Hector and his crew replaced the front half of my double drive which had been badly cracked and had sunken in. I had five contractors bid the job. Hector's knowledge and quality of materials was up there with the highest price contractors but he was able to beat their bids slightly. What really set him over the top that no one else did was that he offered to fill a large depression in the lawn next to the driveway as well for no extra charge. Maybe it's a little thing, but it shows his commitment to excellence. The driveway looks great.

Jon was polite and professional throughout our project. We have original plumbing in a 1948 house, and he was patient and thorough in working on our shower fixtures. It took a few visits to get the job done due to a lack of replacement parts. After replacing cartridges, the leaks are gone and our fixtures function much better (tighter turning and easier to control temperature) We are now getting a quote to add a bathroom in our basement!

when we posted on this site the first person to respond was Mr. Sandercott of Jam Restorations. he prompt response to our add was very impressive. when David came to our home he was very attentive to what we were trying to achieve and what we wanted as the end finished product. keeping in mind that we had (3) prior contractors come out and never even gave us a call back after leaving. David not only returned our call after leaving but had a quote for us the same day WOW.. Needless to say we signed our contract with Jam Restorations the following day. clear wording and easy to follow contract. David provided a start and finish date for us off we went. we hired Jam restorations to do the following work for us, trim (11) windows, (5) doors entire second and third floor as well as our stair case, (3) closets in and out as well as switching out and rehanging the (5) doors. David and his company not only met our expectations but exceeded them so much that we actually asked him to return to complete our first floor living quarters. David and his employees were nothing but professional and considerate of our time table and work schedule. I have had several neighbors come into my home to see his work and they were just as equally impressed as we were. we would Highly recommend him to others, a contractor who answers all of his calls and or gets back to your calls within 5 minutes... actively using jam restoration for other carpentry finishing work in my home. Thank You Mr. Sandercott for your excellent work, detail to finish and professionalism.

I am extremely pleased with this company. I used the plumbing service to replace a hot water tank in my rental house aswell as to unclog a bath tub drain at my home. I also took advantage of the housekeeping services just today. All their pricing was very affordable, no hiden charges.. All employees are prompt, friendly, profressional and thorough. They all enjoy working for this company, which I think says a lot. I am so happy to have found this company through Thumbtack's advertisement on Facebook.

Outstanding. They accurately diagnosed the problem, provided a fair and competitive estimate, started and finished the job one day after giving a free estimate, friendly, polite, clean and professional. As a single, female I am extremely skeptical about hiring contractors without a personal reference but I have no doubts or reservations about hiring them again. I give you my unqualified opinion and guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Good job guys!

I hired Mr. Daffin to replace my toilet fill valve system, repair and hang bi-fold doors, and restore electrical power in two bedrooms. I asked him to provide references from previous jobs he completed, and within minutes, he sent videos of satisfied customers. He arrived early for our appointment which was even better. He is very knowledgeable, thorough, professional, courteous and a man of high morals and integrity. He provided an overview of how he planned to troubleshoot and resolve the electrical issues. To my surprise, he went above and beyond my expectations with everything, and left no stone unturned until he found and resolved my electrical issues. He also made suggestions regarding proper maintenance. As a real estate investor, I've worked with contractors from just about every trade. Mr. Daffin is one of the very best, and I highly recommend him for any projects he takes on.

Okay, first I must say I was so hesitant because of my past experiences with workers/contractors. Even as recently as a week ago on Thumbtack. But, I think I found the one for me! I'm a realtor, and I manage properties as well. I really have found it difficult to find good, honest, quality handyman/contractors. I've lost money and time. Then I came across Harvey on Thumbtack. He not only supplied me with pictures before the roof job (I mean there's no way I was going up there) but after getting the before and after pics I was feeling a lot better about the experience. So, when he began the work, he found that it wasn't as bad as he thought and sent the invoice for what I was hoping...less money. I was just waiting to see what he was going to do. Since it was less work, wouldn't it be less of a price? He was honest with me, and that makes me forever want to work with him again. I also gave him an install on a garbage disposal, he found that he needed to do some additional work, which would cost me a little more. I didn't mind because I was foretold. So far...so good. I'm giving his work quality and integrity, five stars! I'm so glad I decided to come back to Thumbtack to try one more time. This go around has been wonderful. I've included pictures, he cleaned the gutters too, all within my budget! I'm very grateful.

Pros: Complete Professional, Courteous, Tremendous Value, Great Experience, and Outstanding attention to detail. Cons: None. -- Wish I would have met and contracted Dennis Home Improvement Services Earlier. "On May 1st, 2016 Dennis installed laminate flooring to complete my project. Normally I do all my DIY projects, but I was on a time crunch and was curious what the cost was going to be. After going through several bids, I landed on Dennis. From the beginning Dennis was upfront and knowledgeable of the work I needed, we agreed on the price and set the time. Dennis, re- confirmed the appointment and arrived on time and ready to go. Dennis and son (Father and Son Team!) worked very diligently and professionally to complete my project. The cuts and accuracy were done if I was doing the job. Again, I am detailed person and Dennis met my high expectations. Dennis took the extra effort to make me complete satisfied with his services. Looking forward to working Dennis on future projects! Would I hire Dennis for future services? 100% - Yes What separates Dennis from previous contractors? Genuine, Honest, and Fair. How was the pricing? Excellent (so much so, I provided extra for the services)

Rare to find a handyman/contractor that shows up on time and doesn't call you an hour late to tell you he's going to be 2 hours late. This contractor took care of our rental inspection violations promptly and with no hassle to me. We checked out all of his references and portfolio work. We just awarded him a major rehab project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
