When I set out to begin getting into shape I was extremely apprehensive about hiring a personal trainer. I knew going to a gym was not for me, but I was nervous that I would hire someone who would make me dread working out. However, I couldn't be happier with Kevin and his training style. He definitely takes into account where you are coming from, where you are and where you want to end up and tailors every workout to help achieve those goals. It's been a really positive experience working with him and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get into better shape.

I have been working out with Carlos of Fit for Life for over a year. He never lets me get bored and continually motivates me with challenging, fun, and varied workouts--free weights, machines, cardio, boxing, stretching. At first, I was a tiny bit hesitant about working out outside of a traditional gym setting, but it turns out that the personal attention and the great equipment Carlos provides is a hundred times preferable to any of the gyms in the area. I'm a grad student and Carlos is great about working with my hectic schedule to make sure I get the exercise that keeps me sane and healthy. Recently, my wife started working out with Carlos, and I was pleased to see that even though she and I have completely different opinions about exercise (I love it, she hates it), Carlos has gotten her motivated, too.
I have never written an online review before, but after reading Leslie G.'s comments, I just had to speak up. I have been working with Brent for more than three years and can't recommend him highly enough. He is knowledgeable, professional and very, very good at what he does. He has helped me recalibrate my body completely. I am stronger, have no pain, and feel better than I ever have. Brent is very clear about his credentials: A BS in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Michigan State University, and certifications in personal training, senior fitness, nutrition and sports nutrition. Certificates are posted in his studio. But I don't imagine Leslie saw those certificates, because I'm sure she never stepped foot in the studio. How do I know that? The $70 per-hour fee is for clients who come to him. If you ask Brent to come to your home, the higher fee applies. When I began working with Brent, he made it very clear that everything he does is tailored completely to the individual under one-on-one supervision. No mirrors, no machines, no pushing to the point of pain. He has developed his own, proprietary method that is very different from what you would find from a typical personal trainer in a gym. His overarching concern is wellness and functionality, calibrating your body so the muscles work properly and are aligned correctly. Body image and weight loss are secondary. His methodology is sound and effective. Quick to debunk the latest fitness trends, Brent will give you complete, academic explanations about everything he does if you ask him. I am a curious journalist so I always ask, and that is why I know exactly why he recommends heat-only for muscle soreness. Heat, I have learned from Brent, increases blood flow and nutrient exchange, promoting healing. Ice is used to reduce swelling and dampen pain. This can be warranted when you have a major injury and swelling, but ice will also prevent blood flow and the corresponding nutrient exchange, which makes healing take longer. I am quite sure that if Leslie is this unhappy after only three weeks, she was looking for something different than what Brent provides. And that is fair enough. I just want to make sure that other people who are looking for a knowledgeable, effective trainer don't discount Brent based on one malicious review.

I attended several workouts/trainings with him and he is very passionate about helping others achieve their weight loss and fitness goals. He has read up on health issues and sends emails to those interested and he has received certifications to aid in his quest for health. I was impressed immediately by the energy he displayed during the class and the concern for the safety and well-being of all in attendance. There were times when Ron could have cancelled or re-scheduled class due to low turnout but because of his dedication to those of us who he knew was coming, he still held classes. I recommend Ron & Detroit Fit Club for anyone who is serious about improving their health and lifestyle through hard work and commitment to self. I even recommend him for those who aren't that serious yet. He's a great coach, great guy and he'll do what he can to help motivate you and keep you headed in the right direction.

My normal weight was 136 lbs, after Chemotherapy. Beating breast cancer, made my life hard for me to gain weight. I stayed at 120 lbs after all treatment. I went to Harold and asked "how long would it take me to gain 30 more pounds?" Harlod looked me up and down and said "30 days." He answered so quick, I thought ok this guy is lieing. Well guess what in 30 days, I weighted 150 lbs. Not only did this man help me gain the weight I wanted, but he also tricked my body into a bodybuilding physic. I have since entered in a bodybuilding competition and have placed third and fourth place. During my pregnancy I gained 60 pounds and I felt very self conscious about my weight. When I began training with Ron, I weighed 192 pounds. I trained hard because he wouldn't accept anything less. He pushed me to my limits and helped me reach goals I never thought I could reach. He's not your average boring trainer that puts you on a machine and watches you do reps. His out of the box methods and his colorful personality always keeps me laughing. This makes me look forward to my training sessions with him because even though he made me work hard, the sessions were always enjoyable. Over a period of 2 months I was down to 165! YAY! I recommend him to anyone who's serious about losing weight or toning up what you already have. He's the best trainer EVER hands down!

For personal training in boxing, strength and cardio workouts I highly recommend Quintin Torres. I've had several sessions of each and I'm very impressed not only with his skill but his knowledge of how the human body works and the best training to incorporate based on your sport. I'll continue to train with him.
