Nathan is terrific! He painted a beautiful house I just purchased, and changed the color from reds and mauves to a beautiful, crisp cream color that totally opened up the space. He also skim coated a wall and removed wallpaper in another room. He did everything to perfection and I cannot recommend him enough. He stuck with the job and totally went above and beyond in doing beautiful work, making sure I got the best paint and price, making great suggestions about how to improve the look of the house, and worked long hours to make sure he finished in time. I work with NBC in a time sensitive and detail oriented job and Nathan totally fulfilled my exacting requests. He was always polite and a real pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him! if you want to contact me for more information, please email me at cgubash@gmail.com

My company operates a property management business for large single family homes. We have used Harald Christiansen as a painting contractor since 1985. Harald's workmanship is excellent and his rates are very reasonable. Free estimates are promptly prepared. His work is performed on-time or ahead of schedule and is always fully completed. Harald's clean-up is superb! He appreciates that he is working in someone's home. Harald is courteous, friendly, prompt and great to work with. I highly recommend Harald for all your painting and wallpapering needs. Robert Molitor, Molitor & Associates, Inc.

Ryan came over to spray my acoustic textured ceiling this weekend. It was just a patch where we removed a wall. He did an excellent job matching the color and texture. He came over the next day following the request (on a Saturday even), and did the work quickly and without any mess (which is tough with that sprayed texture). Highly recommended, thanks Ryan!

Brandon laid out his time & materials plan for our approval before he started working and he performed to the levels he had laid out. He arrived punctually, cleaned u thoroughly each day at works end and was respectful of our belongings and furniture. His task: remove years old wallpaper & wainscoating, spackle the walls and paint the room, including ceiling. The plan was to have the work completed over 2 weekends and he made his goal. We'll have him back in the future as needed.

We loved working with Mark! He was prompt, on time and such a hard worker, staying long hours to finish the job in the quoted time. And we love the finished result of all his work! Just an all-around nice guy with a great sense of humor that we miss! He will be our "go-to" man for interior projects dealing with wallpaper and paint. And we would highly recommend him to others! Thank you Mark!

We had our popcorn ceilings removed and replaced with knock down. They also painted 3 rooms 3 different colors. They are professional and got the job done in the exact time they estimated. We are very happy with the results. We will use Certa Pro again this summer to repaint the exterior of our house.

Jim Willette, at Moving Presentations, was great. I highly recommend him and would hire him again the next time I have a painting project. Not only did he do a wonderful job painting, he prepped the walls and ceiling, cleaned up afterwards and was on time and on budget. Nice guy, too. Legit!

Jesse Zepeda III removed a large interior window in our building's exercise room and replaced it with a new one that could be opened and closed, to increase ventilation to the room. His work was of outstanding workmanship.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

  • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
  • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
  • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
  • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
  • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
  • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
  • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
  • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
