Introduction: I am one of only five closed door disciples of the fifth generation Master Gin Foon Mark. I operate the Brooklyn Park School. It is one of only a handfull of master Mark's branch schools.
I get the most satisfaction when a student truly learns and understands what they are being taught. Then I know the art is being preserved and will be passed on to future generations.

My time under Si Fu Mark Ahlert at his school has been 13 years. My total time training in this system has been 20 years. I enventually became the senior student in the class (quoon) I have trained at all the long lasting Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu schools in MN, and withought a doubt, Si Fu Mark's quoon is the most effective place to learn this style. However, at some point is a good Idea to learn from The Master, Gin Foon Mark, in St. Paul.
If you want to know anything that I would change about the class, then you can Contact Si Fu Mark Ahlert and I'm sure he would give you my contact info, to discuss any recommendations for change, as it is context dependent.

Typical Class Schedule:
Warm-up (stretching, heavy/speed bag, bamboo rolling, foot sweeping, etc.)
Drill training
2-man form training
Classes are formal but not to the extreme. Typically students warm up, work on techniques planned by the Si Fu and then work on a form of their choice (depending on what they know). All techniques are practiced with students from the class under the guidance and supervision of the head instructor or Si Fu. There is a variety of nice training equipment available. In my experience (approx. 1 year), a lot of time was spent on learning techniques, application, refining, etc. Of the various martial arts schools Ive visited in the area (classical, modern, MMA, etc.) this school has: the most humble instructor, positive attitudes from students, and the fairest and most affordable prices. Overall, the training at this school offers a beautiful art and philosophy and practical self-defense techniques.

1. Are you looking for authentic Martial Arts style?
2. Are you ready to put aside your habits and invest your time and efforts into something meaningful?
3. Are you ready to work hard and not to expect the rewards like Black Belt on your waist and medals on your chest?
4. Are you really looking for some new meaning in your life and do you want to implement the philosophical principals of your Martial Art practice to your daily life style?

I have over 35 years of experience in Martial Arts in two different countries: Russia and USA. I got through all levels in this field: Ive been a student, worked as instructor, I became the head coach of a large Martial Art Club which I also owned. However, I never saw such a beautiful, intelligent, and practical style as Southern Praying Mantis. Also, I was never involved in such serious, dedicated atmosphere of practice.
I recommend Si Fu (instructor) Mark Ahlert and his school without any doubts as the best place for practice of unique style for any levels. Do not expect quick meaningless results. The main achievement waits you on the road of practice, which will change your life.

Before enrolling into any Martial Art school, Please be sure to check if the so called - disciples, who were never certified or approved by the Real Southern Praying Mantis Gin Foon Mark Family to have had serious tournaments and competitions and trophy to their so called Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu ability. Otherwise, I can recommend schools and instructors who has served their time, and proved their ability. Please write to tiying374@yahoo.com
