Songs with Sarah

I wrote my final project for grad school on the curriculum "Music Moves for Piano," and learned countless things that only reinforced what I already believe: too many programs are teaching our children music the wrong way. Just like in language, it's important for them to experience sound, before sight, before theory. That means they are moving, chanting and singing the music before ever reading the notation. This is essential for a child's brain development and will change how they relate to music forever. My classes are 60 minutes with no more than 3-4 students per class. We begin with floor activities (singing, moving, being creative in various tonalities and meters), move to the piano for familiarity and improvisation activities, move back to the floor and then have individual time with each student while the others continue to improvise, listen and create music. The class is designed to be a way for your child to learn the fundamentals of music while also training their hands and fingers to play the piano with proper technique! I absolutely love it when a child lights up for music and starts to understand things they may have never thought about. Nothing can beat that I get to see that happen every day.
