With 25 years spent behind a drum set, a Bachelors degree in music performance, and 10+ years of teaching/performance experience, I provide professional and engaging drum lessons for all ages and skill levels. With a proven method, my students have gone from having no musical experience to confidently playing along with their favorite songs, reading music off the page, and performing in bands!
Fun, encouraging, and patient, I build great relationships with all of my students. I always work through material at whatever pace is needed for the student to succeed.
My students enjoy their lessons so much that my average student takes lessons for 2 years. 63% of my students continue with lessons for at least 1 year and 30% of my students stay with me for 3+ years.
I love sharing my passion for music and my knowledge about drums with my students. Watching my student have that "light bulb" moment in lesson, and seeing the accomplished smile form on their face never gets old. I love watching shy/cautious students come out of lessons with a new found confidence.

Before I started drumlessons, I knew absolutely nothing about drums. Spencer is an awesome teacher who values his passion. Each lesson is something a little different and a bit challenging, but that gives me a push to practice harder. Spencer is flexible and accommodating to the wants and needs of lessons, but also wants to see you be successful and encourages one to take the next levels of success. I never knew how to read music, and now I can!

Spencer, of Key of Rhythm Studios, did a wonderful job working with our five year old grandson during his three weeks in MN. Spencer was patient, fun loving, but stayed on track and accomplished a lot in a short period of time. We'll continue next year, if drums are still in our little guy's agenda,

My son loves his weekly drumlessons with Spencer! I like how Spencer assesses the drum level and gives lessons accordingly. He gives homework and follows up with it in class. He is punctual and uses the lesson time to its fullest. Spencer is a knowledgeable drummer and an excellent teacher.

Spencer works very well with our son on his weekly drumlessons. He gives him tangible homework each week to practice at home and works professionally, patiently with our sons and each child’s personality. He responds quickly to emails and texts. He sends email and text reminds if you choose to have those. He also sends monthly tuition emails. He is definitely a blessing for our son and valuable.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My lesson length and corresponding price is as follows:
30 min lessons - $34
45 min lessons - $44 - Most Popular
60 min lessons - $54
New students receive a 50% discount on their first lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to spend the first lesson evaluating what the student already knows. Depending on the skill level of the student we move on to working through material to improve the student's reading, coordination, and groove vocabulary. Once the student is ready we start learning songs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a student of the drum set for 24 years. I have worked professionally as an educator and performer for the past 11 years. I have performed in many original bands, church worship bands, musical theater pit bands, recording projects, and traveling groups.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from McNally Smith College of Music with a Bachelor's in Percussion Performance. While at McNally Smith I took two classes on pedagogy (the study of teaching). I began teaching immediately after graduating in the spring of 2014.
I have had great success taking students with no musical knowledge and turning them into skilled drummers. I have also had success working with students who have prior musical knowledge and helping them to further develop their skills.
