REVISED AND UPDATED 10/29/2020: my initial 1 star review in May 2020 was based on the frustration we experienced based on the fact that we believed our project was “winter work” and would be completed quickly. Unfortunately, there were loose ends that were not resolved after several weeks of waiting. This included warped boards on the deck that were not screwed down and resulted in injury, exposed live wires on the electric outlet, and concrete that was still waiting to be poured from the beginning of April to the beginning of June. We were also unhappy with the messy condition of the worksite at the end of the work day ESPECIALLY on Fridays when we would have mess or trash in the yard for the weekend. We were frustrated with the lack of communication between the crews and the owners. The majority of these problems were due to miscommunication-- not workmanship.
Overall, we have a beautiful deck. Throughout the summer, there were several warped railings and detached spindles. Rick himself and his deck crew were able to fix and replace any damaged boards as they appeared.
Our patio is also lovely. There were delays with the manufacturing of the pillars and Rick was very clear in sharing with us the communication from the manufacturer as that company was delayed and had errors due to Covid. We enjoy the extra space especially during these times with more “at home time”
The stamped concrete did have some glitches with the delayed pour. There were also some oddities in the color mixture. Mike V went above and beyond time and time again to try to fix this. He tried several applications of color stain and sealants to try to average out the discoloration. We felt that Rick really went the extra mile in contacting the color manufacturer to see what could be done. After so many layers and attempts, and as we entered into the cold rainy season, we agreed to wait it out and see if sun and time will average it out. And as Rick can tell you, it is a very lovely and usable space.
OLS is a family business and a growing one There are expected growing pains to be experienced. Again, everything we were concerned about could have easily been fixed with communication. I would recommend trying to talk in person with Rick or on the phone with him as needed. Emails and texts have led to more misunderstandings than solutions for everyone involved.
Rick sincerely wants to make sure you have a great project and a space you and your family will enjoy.See more
