I have a comprehensive method for guitar that is first and foremost conceptual in nature. The method progresses in a logical and linear manner through 900 years of musical development and applies it to the guitar. Most teachers just teach songs. If you study with me you will gain the knowledge and tools to figure the song out for yourself.

Jay has a deep knowledge of music theory yet presents it in a way that is clearly applicable to the guitar. Don't expect to learn by tablature here (see his anti-tab discussion on his website). Instead, expect to learn in a way that will help you know what you're doing and how to communicate with other musicians playing other instruments.

Definitely the best guitar teacher I've had! Jay has a very detailed set of lesson plans in 10 books that walk you through learning guitar from the basics to advanced in a systematic way. Highly recommended!

I've been taking guitar lessons from Jay for about 1&1/2 years! Because of Jay's teaching method and patience, I have more than surpassed all expectations I had about being able to play the guitar. My goals were to learn how to play the guitar if I could and have FUN doing it! Jay's method, 'Vertical Truth' is easy to comprehend and with Jay's help I am playing more songs than I could have ever imagined. Also with Jay's help I have been able to begin transferring what knowledge of music theory I have from playing other instruments to the guitar! Simply put, Jays method of teaching is designed to help each student at their own pace as no two individuals are the same! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing system is very simple: $35 per 30-minute lesson. Pay by the month up front ($140 most months.) Pay by check, cash, Venmo or PayPal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
3 years at the UMKC Conservatory of Music as a Guitar Performance Major. Seven years of private study of theory and arranging with John Elliott. 45 years of performing. I estimate over 10,000 shows since 1970.
