FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge a 50% deposit to begin the work. My reason for this is that there is never a guarantee that the client will like my designs. In the creative field you can never be sure how they will respond. If that ends up being the case, and the client no longer wishes to pursue the project, it doesn't eliminate the fact that I put in the time and did the work. However, I am sympathetic if the client and I don't end up being a good match. The 50% deposit pays for any time I may have spent on the project, while also protecting the customer from paying full price for something they didn't end up liking. My quotes are usually pretty firm, but the price may change if we get into a large amount of edits and a lot more time spent on the project than what was estimated, but the client would be notified before any further work is done in that case.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I communicate with the client in person or via phone or email and discuss the project details. This typically includes color preferences, wording and font style if applicable, theme/mood, etc. I may also ask for an example if I can't capture the feel of the project from our conversation. Once we have gone over the specifications, I will get started! Depending on the project, I usually send at least two different concepts. The customer would then decide which direction they want to go and we would build from that design together. Once the project is completed, the customer will received print and web files in multiple versions where applicable.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended DeVry University for Multimedia and Graphic Design for 3 years. After college I got a job as a designer at a small print shop where I worked for 6 years. There I learned a lot about design and how to design for print versus web more effectively. I have also been free lancing during the same time. All together, I have a total of about 10 years of professional experience.
