FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was a firefighter back in the seventies and needed to earn more money on my days off so I didnt spend all the money from the fire department. I had worked several different types of construction jobs in the past so it was a natural fit with the scheduling in the fire house. I was able to stay very busy on my days off and still have time for other things as well. At one time I had several people working for me but now I work by myself most of the time.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
One of the most common jobs I get called on is bathroom floors. Unfortunately most of the people that call are the ones that let it get to the point of seriousness that a significant job is required and all they seem to want is a little piece of wood nailed up under the rotted wood so they wont fall through. Unless the owner wants to do the job right I really have no interest in doing it for two reasons. 1. I am not interested in taking on the liability that is there. 2. I dont want anyone saying later that oh Chris did that.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Many people dont realize how important it is to get a repairman/contractor that takes pride in his work and will do more than just the cosmetic cover up. There are many construction people out of work today and doing home repairs that should not be in business. Many times I have had to pick up the pieces that these guys have left behind. It is very important that home repairs be done properly to protect the value of your # 1 lifetime investment. There seem to be many Real Estate agents, Landlords and Property Managers that look for the cheap cosmetic cover up and keep the shysters in business. Beware who you hire to work on your home.
