Before hiring an illustrator or commission artist, take an extensive look at their portfolio. Ask if they have recieved any recognition or have any credentials towards the quality and proficiency of their work. An illustrator or artists that has been featured in galleries is usally a good sign, as you can contact that gallery and ask how that artist was like to work with.
