About Farrell Sylvest, Bachelor of Music Degree www.farrellsylvest.com

If you want a teacher for yourself of your child who will inspire, encourage with positive affirmations and provide a safe place to explore the world of music, you've come to the right place. I love teaching and have the same excitement today as I did 20 years ago. I treat each student as the individual they are and work diligently to match desires with the lesson content. I provide a thorough training in the structure of music as well as offering opportunities for self expression through improvisation and composition. My ultimate goal is to offer the training necessary that students can find their own musical expression in the joy of making music!

I've taught students from 5 - 85 so all are welcomed to my cozy piano studio in Oakley. Comfortable space for parents and parking.

  • 5/5 stars Piano Lessons Verified Review

Farrell has been teaching our 7 year old daughter piano for a few months now and I don't know how she does it! I have witnessed a beautiful transformation in my daughter from a shy little girl into a musician. Farrell is kind, patient, warm, loving and her love for music is contagious. Thank you thumbtack for leading us to Farrell.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. The teacher's training, teaching style and focus should match that of the student.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Having the skill to play the piano is a very satisfying activity and it requires time, discipline and focused practice.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What is your training.
What are your expectations of the student.
What intentions do you as a teacher bring to each lesson.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I believe my work stands out because I bring much enthusiasm to the piano. I also create a space in which students feel safe to learn, to ask questions and to not be embarrassed by mistakes. I bring excitement to each lesson which has a way of transferring to the student and that goes along way in inspiring them to practice.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. That every lesson is new and exciting because each student is unique. I honor and respect each person and whatever abilities they bring to the lesson. To sit down at the piano with a student is an opportunity to share my joy of making music and an opportunity to inspire others to find their own style of making music.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish that customers knew that teachers are all very different in their style and approach to teaching. Although professionally and classically trained in a stringent, rigid environment, I create an environment that is anything but rigid. My goal first and foremost is that students enjoy their learning process. Another primary focus is that I approach students as a whole person, not just the part of them showing up for a lesson. I maintain a focus on our learning process but not with a rigidity that dampens the spirit of the joy of learning. .

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. The ability to communicate effectively and positively with students. I am a great listener, particularly to what is NOT being said!
