We are very happy with the professionalism, responsiveness, work quality and value of Garcia's Concrete Service. We had a challenging sloped driveway at the bottom of hill with lots of water flowing down it during rains so it's wasn't your standard driveway job. But Garcia came up with some technically sound options and the outcome is outstanding. He knows his product. He and his team are very responsive and a pleasure to work with! It's amazing to see them in action.

The jobs was to level the end of our driveway and install a french drain next to the house. The old driveway was almost a foot thick at its thickest point. Bruce completed the work in three days. The drain works exactly as advertised and the driveway no longer has a car scraping bump at the end of it. I was very pleased with how professional, courteous, and timely the contractors were. I would recommend this company to anyone needing concrete work done at their house.

Excellent service provided by Tim and his team. The quote for an approximately 200 sqft cement driveway addition came in very fast, was proposed as expected, and work started immediately the next day. The team member who did the leveling took extra care in moving the dirt and even spread it for me in an area requiring topsoil. This made raking and reseeding a breeze. Also knowing that the slab was going over some 4" and 2" drainage lines they took special care to be sure all were secured safely below new pour as to not cause any issues. Tim's crew returned after slab cured and took up the frame boards and even pressure washed the area to remove any soil residue from existing driveway. Great job! We will call Tim again for any future cement/foundation needs and we recommend his services highly.

Perry did an amazing and excellent job on a backyard paver patio. He knew exactly what we were looking for and had ideas already thought up minutes after seeing the sight for the first time. He was very prompt and very professional and always had our best interests first. He was an absolute delight to work with and he always kept us in the loop about everything and what was to happen next! His work is amazing and he is very detailed oriented and very thorough with everything that he does! Would recommend Perry to everyone and will defiantly use him again in the future!

WOW! After an extensive search of local landscape design companies (online, google, and even joining Angie's List), we narrowed it down to 2 companies: AMA Landscape Design and one other local business. We called both businesses just to get a feel for what they were like to work with, as well as to inquire about an initial consult/estimate. The first thing that struck me when I called AMA Landscape Design was how professional AND personable Adam Fitch (business owner) was to speak with. Admittedly, I knew very little about Landscape Design and in retrospect, had a very vague idea at best of what I wanted for my home exterior. But Adam was patient and knowledgable enough to guide my wife and me through the process of figuring out what we envisioned for our home. He then created an amazing design plan that made us both happy, AND helped us fine-tune the details to remain within our budget. And so Project "Livingston Home Makeover" began. What impressed me and my wife about Mr. Fitch and his crew was that from beginning to end, EVERY person from AMA who came onto our property during the project was truly respectful (and I mean in speaking to us, never leaving trash or food wrappers to blow around the job site, and working HARD instead of just lazily waiting for their shift to end). Mr. Fitch regularly made sure we were up-to-date on the status of the entire project, including any progress made AND any hurdles/delays encountered along the way. But the very best part was, of course, the completion of the project. We are still just blown away with the home we have today- I actually enjoy coming home and pulling into the driveway, and so proud of our home. Welcoming company into our home used to start with a bit of a cringe until they got up the sidewalk and inside. Not anymore! From the lawn and landscaping, to the hardscaped updates and the overall easy to maintain exterior of our home has been such a blessing. I can't express just how highly I recommend Mr. Fitch and AMA Landscape Design, but we couldn't be happier with our experience. Photos to come!

The job appears to be well done. We were not at home when they did it. It was done then for our convenience. While it seems OK, they did not replace as much of the driveway as expected which increased the cost per square foot to be higher than I expected to pay. That said, our driveway is much improved.

I hired Lily Concrete to tear up and replace my previous driveway. My driveway was peeling and a mess. Within two days they tore up the old driveway (day one) and poured the concrete for the new one (day two). Their price was very reasonable and they were very efficient. Highly recommend for any of your concrete needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
