I am not a patient of Jill Doan's business but I can tell you about my personal experiences with Eastern Therapy Acupuncture. As you walk in the building, after signing in a staff member will hand you a clipboard with paperwork that needs to be filled out as thoroughly as possible. It is important for the success of your treatments that you are open, honest, and list everything, including any problems you have today. List any and all medical treatments received elsewhere, medications with dosages and how frequently taken (it's much easier to keep a list of all your medications with dosage, and frequency taken. (ie. Propranolol 20mg taken 3 times each day for treatment of (insert condition here) - then continue to the next one. If you do keep a list of your medications, I am certain the staff will have no problem making a copy of your list so you can keep your copy without having to write it over again. It is important to add medications taken only at specific times such as medication to abort a migraine headache when regular daily medicine doesn't work or taking medication to help stop a fever blister (herpes simplex) from breaking out and for the lucky ones paying attention to the precursor signs of a fever blister break-out, to stop it completely. The reason for listing why you take a medication is important since many medications can be used for a wide variety of health issues. Following the completion of your medical history and conditions with medications, the staff can fill out a chart with all your information so your acupuncturist Jill Doan can tailor the treatment to your personal medical needs. The treatment rooms are as sterile, if not more so, than any doctor office. Some practitioners play music in the background that has a calming effect; others will use aromatherapy that promotes calmness, and there are others who use both. Aromatherapy doesn't need to be limited to the treatment room for acupuncture. Various scents can trigger responses in our everyday lives. My hunger trigger, even if I am not able to see it, is the food smell from this amazing Japanese restaurant. After a few minutes passing by it, I am hungry! Lavender essential oils in a mist formulated to spray on a pillow you sleep on along with various potpourri in baskets I keep in my room (add potpourri to a Ziplock bag while allowing plenty of space to shake the bag after adding the lavender essential oil, zipping the bag well before shaking it around to coat the potpourri but not drown it. open the back to give it time to dry then return the potpourri in wooden baskets or glass decorative bowls, etc...). It works wonders! I'm sure Jill Doan can give many more options; however, it is important to keep your mind open to trying new things as well. Acupuncture has been around for centuries as well as aromatherapy and herbal therapy. Any treatment method with few, if any results cannot say the same. If it were up to me, I would be seeing an acupuncturist a few times a week; however, transportation along with money for fuel doesn't make it possible so when I am able to go - I DO! Last but not least, don't be surprised if you fall asleep on the acupuncture table. It's not a risk of falling or anything of the sort; in my case, I fall asleep because the acupuncture treatments calms my anxiety, the emotional roller coaster of being a blind mom who also suffers from moderate to more severe stages of Lupus (SLE), Sjogren's Disease, Fibromyalgia, and Osteoarthritis. At any other time between acupuncture treatments, because I am unable to go on a regular basis, the pain from these degenerative and genetic disorders where the flip was switched at some point in my life, the pain waxes and wanes from tolerable to the point where it is so bad I have no choice but go to the ER until I can go back to the neurologist or rheumatologist but if I'm fortunate enough, able to afford the trip to a great acupuncturist. While I am undergoing the treatments, it is the ONLY TIME I AM NOT IN PAIN! Most doctors use the phrase, "Rate your pain from 0 as none to 10 as unbearable." I get sick of the unbearable! I want acupuncture long before my pain levels reach 7 or 8. Try it for yourself. I tell everyone it is a lot better than having injections of cortisone with marcaine on each side of my spine from the area where the lumbar spine begins to just below the area where it ends in order to control the pain from degenerative disc disease, degenerative arthritis and Osteoarthritis in the lumbar spine as well. I'll reiterate: If I had the choice between Eastern acupuncture to the painful injections of drugs that are making my joints and bones even more brittle and damaged, I'd take the acupuncture 'every day of the week & twice on Sundays.' Acupuncture is not painful, plus when your visit is over, you go out feeling 1000x better and the pain didn't go away due to a drug that will cause brittle bones and joints. If an acupuncturist ever opens an office in my county, I will be going there as frequently as they will allow it!

I went to Ben Townsend for acupuncture because I had chronic hip pain for more than three years. I tried physical therapy as recommended by my family doctor along with hot/cold compresses, massage therapy, supplements, yoga, and more. These helped a little, but I continued to have hip pain, especially at night. This impacted my sleeping and daily activities. After two months with Ben's acupuncture treatment and dietary recommendations, my hip pain is gone! I am thrilled and cannot thank him enough.
