Introduction: Spanish K-12 Spanish speaker. I hold a PhD in second language acquisition and i worked for now 10 years as an Ivy-League university-level professor, last one was at Duke. I am conducting field research, and working as a tutor in the mean time. Join me!

Silvia has been teaching me Spanish for over a year and I couldn't be happier with my experience. She is a native speaker, and most importantly, she has a deep understanding of modern language teaching methods and the necessary emotional conditions for students to be successful. Teaching Spanish is clearly a passion for her.
She constantly challenges me not only to learn the grammar and vocabulary of the language, but to use the mechanics in creative ways. She draws on all kinds of materials, including movies, short stories, and improv games and gets me to think critically about what I have seen, all while using Spanish. She is flexible and curious, and lessons are always fun.

I have worked with Silvia for about 6 months and I have noticed an improvement in my reading, writing and listening of the language. Most importantly, I have gained more confidence in my abilities to speak Spanish. We usually spend our sessions conversing in Spanish and it has really helped me become more comfortable using my Spanish skills. Before working with Silvia, I had to memorize all my Spanish presentations for my AP Spanish Language class but now I can speak more extemporaneously. On top of that, Silvia is always on time and always willing to accommodate my schedule.

Silvia is a proficient tutor. She is positive, encourages her students, and helps them be successful in learning Spanish. Since I have begun lessons with her, I have gained greater confidence in speaking and writing Spanish. She also is accessible, working with her students and their schedules, and is willing to schedule additional meetings as needed. After each tutoring session, she takes the time to email online practice activities related to the topics covered. I would recommend Sylvia to anyone needing assistance with their Spanish class.
