Introduction: My focus as a teacher is showing students what they can become as a musician and how they can make it to that point. Every student pictures themselves doing something different in music. Whether that is learning a few songs to impress your friends, blasting solos with a rock band, or creating thoughtful improvisations in a jazz group, I can help you identify your goals and set a plan to reach them.
I have been playing saxophone since I was in third grade. I earned degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies at the University of Maryland, with which I have taught both high school and elementary school band. I have been playing jazz gigs with a variety of bands for 10 years now, and am a founding member of the Pop/Funk group Strutman Lane, where I perform and arrange saxophone parts and solos.
My background in education and performance provides me the highest quality teaching pedagogy as well as the knowledge of what it takes to be a professional performer. Students of mine can expect lessons with a passionate performer who understands the importance and technique of delivering information in an informative and encouraging manner.
