I've been an interior designer for 10 years and will be glad to endorse him for my clients. He is the absolute best and cannot wait to do more projects with him!! I cannot begin to say how happy I am with Victor's professionalism, kind mannerism and care he placed into my home while installing two new lights over my own kitchen bar area. Not only did he put care into my home, but also educated me on the steps which WERE necessary, and did not try to up-sell me on the items that were not necessary-every step of the way!!! He came to examine the job last Friday and came today and finished the project in just a couple of hours!!! There was no pre-existing lighting or electrical boxes and he made very smart choices and limited the amount of drywall cutting to a minimal. He even helped clean up!!! He was a true joy to have as my electrician and I will definitely be doing business with him again and will recommend him to everyone I know, WITHOUT A DOUBT!!! Thanks so much again, Victor for your amazing work - while adding beauty, functionality and extra style in my home!!! Jason M. Raleigh, NC

T R Murphy Construction Company LLC did a home update for me. It required a good amount of work. They did the entire job their selves which was good dealing with one person. They did sub floor repair laminate tile some sheetrock repairs painting and countertops. As well as a few more minor things. I was very pleased. It was fast clean and great quality work. I know other friends who have used them also and I've never heard a negative complaint. Prices are great and customer service is wonderful. Highly recommended!

I am so thankful we found Ricky to paint our home. I hired a painter here on Thumbtack that stood us up twice. I posted another request for a painter and thank goodness Ricky replied. My only complaint is that I didn't get to hire him the first time! He came out immediately, the next day to look at the space, and to confirm his quote via email was accurate, and he painted our space the following day. His quote was exactly what he ended up charging us, he didn't quote a price and then end up increasing it, like so often happens with other workers. Not to mention, his price is extremely competitive, so much so we had him do an additional room that we hadnt planned on painting right away. His price to paint our master bedroom, bathroom and living area was less than other painters quotes for just the master bed and bath. We added the additional room to paint and he still got the work done, with excellent quality, in one day. Ricky did an excellent job painting our space and will definitely hire him again!

We needed the interior of our house painted. I filled out our needs with Thumbtack, which we had never used before, and received an immediate response from Randy Barnes. We set up an appointment for the following Monday. Randy was on time, very polite, and listened to our painting needs. While he was here, we inquired if he did power washing and other repairs and/or building. His estimate was extremely fair and he not only got all the painting done in a reasonable time frame, we added additional painting, power washing of two houses, all our concrete, & replaced the motor in our attic fan. He was extremely neat and cleaned up everyday. The only things we did were remove paintings, curtains and wall hangings. Randy moved furniture and took care not to scratch floors or drip paint. He is on our list to be the first to call when we need anything done around the house. He is also humble enough to give you the names of other people that have expertise in work that he doesn't do. He also calls or texts if he will be late (doctor's appt) which was once! He is our "Go To Guy" from now on! Hire Randy! You will not be sorry! Gail & Jim Roberts

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
