FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I don’t provide quotes, as they need to take into account every possible scenario/risk that could potential increase the amount of time and/or material needed. Therefore, quotes are invariably more expensive than the actual cost of the completed project. Quotes also do not allow for any changes or additions that a customer may want to make mid-project, which often occurs. In contrast, my pricing approach is to initially inform customers of my current hourly rate, and that if the customer does not have the needed material - assuming the cost of those materials are limited to a few hundred dollars - I will provide said materials and invoice them in the form of equivalent hours (rounded up). However, in the event that more expensive materials are needed, the customer will need to order/pay for materials and have them delivered onsite in advance of my using them. If absolutely necessary, I can provide a rough estimate of time only (no materials), but the final/actual time taken will ultimately be charged.
