Hired on Thumbtack

We hired Chelsie to do your Family vacation photos on the beach. We were there with another family as well so I hired her to do both our our family pictures. Our goal was just to get at least one great family picture. First off-we were very disappointed with the lack of guidance with posing. I was hoping for a little more guidance in that area with moving people in the right spot, checking posture, etc. She took a ton of photos so I was certain that we would have plenty of good ones to choose from but that wasn't the case. The color quality on the pictures were horrible. I believe she took them all on the wrong setting or used the wrong lens on or something. Some of the skin tones are paper white. And if you think I'm exaggerating, I'm not! My daughters face matched my sons white polo shirt. One of my daughters legs was paper white while the other foot was tan. My sons face was paper white while his legs were tan legs. His exact words were, "I look like a vampire". These examples are all on the same picture. I'm pretty good with editing so I was hoping when I received the images I could edit them but I wasn't able to salvage one picture out of 813. The other family doesn't have one good one either and I believe they have about the same amount of pictures as well. The other family has issues with the color and the posing and are extremely disappointed as well. Chelsie had taken a series of photos in a pose then after said one of the kids was a little slouched but then didn't take any more. So needless to say, none of those turned out. She said we would have 35-40 great edited images on an online archive but we didn't get that many. The group picture she chose to edit and put on the online archive someone has their eyes closed. Why would she put that on there? That right there was an indication of the lack of attention to detail. I can't tell you exactly how many we got on the online archive because as soon as I expressed how dissatisfied I was she password protected the site and I was no longer able to view them. At this point we had discussed a possible refund and I would then have to send back the disk and give up the rights but I was still in the process of editing them to TRY to get one that would work. Very unprofessional on her part, and when I would ask why they were password protected she would not give me an answer. Mind you at this point, I had NOT confirmed I wanted a refund and I HAD paid for these. The other family had no communication with Chelsie at all and she also was locked out of the archive. She would not speak to me in person and said she would only communicate via email. I had specific questions for her that would have been much easier if we could chat on the phone but she refused. I was trying to figure out what went wrong so I could maybe salvage one picture. In almost every picture there is pink in the corners. When I asked her what that is she said she wasn't sure, she's never had that happen with that lens before. She told me it could be fixed with cropping and editing. Well my husbands head is cut off on so many photos so that wasn't an option. I didn't pay a professional so I would have to edit my own photos. I could go on and on, but I won't. Ultimately we wished she would have admitted that something went wrong. It happens and its not a big deal and she could have re-done them. We were in NC for over a week and would have much rather had her re-do them, then leave without a single good family picture. We can't get this vacation back and because I was so certain we would have a great picture I didn't get another family picture on that vacation. Not only did we lose all that vacation time getting 11 people ready for a photo shoot but we have nothing to show for it now. There isn't a single picture that I would print and display. I'm so extremely disappointed on the quality and the way she handled the situation. We would not recommend her to anyone. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Photography is a passion of mine. My husband and I got married on a very tight budget and capturing our wedding was so important to us. Those are the pieces that last forever. I wanted to become a photographer so that people like us wouldn't have to sacrifice beautiful photographs of life's sweetest moments regardless of their budget.
