Change for Living Counseling, PLLC.
About this pro
We are a group of therapists with many years of experience, varying areas of specialty, but most important, we are caring, down-to-earth & are committed to making people feel comfortable coming to talk with us. We also offer services in Spanish, can provide psychological testing & have a provider who has specialized in working with the LGBT community for over 20 years. We also have providers that can help with such concerns as sadness, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, parenting frustrations, kids behavior & addictions, including substance abuse. We provide these services with the experience to attend to making sure you feel understood & cared for, above all else. We have all spent our entire professional lives working to make people's lives better. We do this because we know that struggle is a part of all of our lives & that it is the responsibility of each of us to help people through those challenges in whatever way we can. This care & commitment is enormously rewarding & keeps us grounded in the strengths & weaknesses that unite us all. What really matters to us is creating a safe environment for people in explore their lives & envision & act on whatever change works for them. The connection felt in being understood by someone else benefits all involved & we like knowing that sometimes this process not only is healing, but makes people grow & change their lives significantly.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? The fee for services depends on the type of session (individual, family/couples), the length of the sessions (typical 45 minutes up to 90 minutes or 2 hours depending on situational needs) and the level of education of the therapist (licensed master's level therapist or PhD level doctor).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?As someone who has been part of & studied issues related to the LGBT community for over 25 years I (Michelle Topal therapist & owner of Change for Living Counseling PLLC) have a deep understanding of issues related to sexual identity/orientation, homophobia, coming out, the impact of heterosexism & what it means to be a sexual minority in this culture. I continue to develop my understanding through my work, readings, consultation with colleagues & workshops.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?We all do this because we are committed to understanding ourselves & others & because we care deeply about reducing the suffering of those around us. It's that commitment that makes helping people find paths that make their lives better, fulfilling & purposeful. Also, because we believe that we all have the ability to grow & change, we want to help people feel hopeful & a sense of possibility, even under the most difficult of circumstances.
