The move went perfectly. Jay and the crew were very professional and thoughtful. They were prepared with appropriate size trucks and had all the right gear. It was a long distance move and went very smoothly. They even put my bed together. I would definitely hire them again.

Moving has always been a nightmare for me. I dread it more than anything. I had moved myself from Michigan to Mass back in July and now four months later I found myself faced with moving again. I decided to use a moving company since it wasn't a long distance move this time and I was moving only an hour away. I got several estimates made some astronomical. Real Deal had submitted the second lowest estimate, but after checking the feedback on the lowest estimate, it was easy to see it was worth the ten dollars an hour more to go with Real Deal over the next lowest estimate. The cheapest isn't always the best and I look at companies reviews because I have a lot of valuable and fragile items that I don't want broken or stolen. The reviews on Real Deal were all good as opposed to endless tales of nightmare experiences with the others who had submitted estimates. The guys actually showed up and were at work ten minutes before they were scheduled. The guys were awesome. They were very careful with items, very efficient on their use of time, no goofing off or breaks. They had a job to do and they got there and got at it. They turned what usually is my greatest nightmare into an enjoyable experience.

These are the best movers we could get. I am so thankful that they did the moving on 27th November considering no one entertains such requests. They were team of 3 and each one of them are hardworking and very friendly. Peter owns up the responsibility and executes with full dilligence. I will defineltly call them for my next move. The move went seamless. The thing i liked the most was they were very thorough, helped in dis-assembling stuff n handled everything with care.

Xpress Movers did our long distance move from Providence to central MA. They were easy to communicate with and since we weren't able to be there, they willingly coordinated with my mother.

Ken and his crew (Steve & Mike) were prompt, courteous, professional and very reasonably priced. They worked hard and quick - all on a Saturday afternoon. I would definitely recommend DuLong Moving to anyone in need of good labor to move either a short or long distance. I was very satisfied with their workmanship and am happy I chose them. I received first rate service at a cost that beat all other competitors. With their skill sets and dedication to customers, DuLong Moving will go far. ~ Bob C., Lincoln, Mass.

I had a very good experience with all personnel of A Perfect Move. It was time to move the belongings out of the storage cube and blend our households. My husband had recently had surgery and could not do this work. I got a reasonable estimate from Erin. I had a list of what was in storage, what I wanted to sell, and what I wanted moved to our home. I had pre planned what was to go to the loft, rooms, and remain in the garage for sale. Also, pieces of furniture that needed to be moved within our home, room to room. I first met the team at the storage cube and they emptied the space. On to our home. True, pieces were not shrink wrapped, but were covered with padded blankets. While the estimate allowed 3 hours, it took 4, but was done with care and in the right places. I was very pleased with the work that these men did, especially under the circumstance of an unfinished steep stairway to the loft over the garage, and working around other furniture. Admittedly, another curved stairway was problematic for one of the movers, when he did not know which way to turn the dresser to fit up the staircase, but dilemma was solved. I was somewhat disappointed when a Murphy bed could not be moved safely and confidently to the garage, but opted to let my husband handle that later, as it was his unique valuable piece.

We hired these guys last year to help us get all of our stuff out of a storage unit and unto a truck. They were fast, decently priced and nothing was damaged or broken. I would definitely recommend them. I did notice a review that complained about their appearances and us of foul language. They are movers, not choir boys. They definitely were NOT rude to me or anyone else.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
