We just met with Kristin last Monday and evaluated the situation with our foster dog Zelle. We got a good feeling from her and even more importantly, Zelle seemed to respond well to her. We agreed to schedule several follow-up sessions to work on Zelle's fears and behavioral issues. It's too early to give an accurate star rating, but fingers crossed, so far so good!

Greg walked my dog Daisy 5 times a week and was just what I was looking for! Daisy is a young pitbull and therefore needs plenty of exercise and attention, Greg was able to provide that for her while I was at work and she is happier and healthier than she has ever been. I can't thank Greg enough for taking care of Daisy, and the reasonable rate is a definite plus!

We are so grateful to have found Claire! She is a true animal lover and it is such a relief we know our fur/feather/(pig skin?) babies are in her care when we are away. All of our pets love her! She is mature, responsible, thorough, professional, reliable and able to think on her feet and take initiative. She cares for our dog, pig, chickens and goats when we are away. You will be thankful you found her too!

Angela was so good with all my animals. She even had to deal with getting sprayed by a skunk with the dogs! She did a great job of cleaning up! I felt comfortable while I was gone, knowing my animal family had excellent care.

On short notice Cape Dog Walking was able to accommodate our travel needs. Cape Dog Walking took our dogs for a walk every three hours during the day, cleaned up any mess (the dogs are old), and took care of the paper, mail and other small animals.

I walk dogs and also pet sit for vacations or specific needs. I will feed, walk, and give shots and plenty of love.

I am an empty nester looking to walk dogs only in Gloucester, Massachusetts. I have a beautiful beagle/hound mix who loves the woods and beach. I currently walk another hound in the morning for friends who work 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM. We usually go to Goose Cove Rez or Lighthouse Beach. I really love pets, and I love the exercise and fresh air. I would love to walk more pets on a daily basis.

I do not have a business, but I love dogs, and I do not mind walking them or taking care of them. I have a-12 -year-old bicheon and have had a golden. I take care of my sister's dog as well. I love dogs and do not mind picking up after them. My Abby and I walk every morning, and I don't mind walking early in the morning. I will also go over in the afternoon and take them for a walk as well.

I charge $5 for one dog and $10 for more than one dog. I love dogs; I help take care of my grandmother's dog (pug). I walk all kinds of dogs.

I am a pet sitter and walker. I am experienced with dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. I can give medications. I can provide vet and client references upon request. I can also stay overnight and house sit if you are traveling. I am available to travel 5 miles from 01985 zip code.

Dog and people training that's focused on helping families have a balanced dog. This type of instruction works well for the majority of owners who want a family dog, not a ribbon in obedience. Manners, some "environmental obedience", and very few bad habits are what most of us want from our four-legged friends.

I am a licensed canine acupuncturist, dog sitter, walker, trainer, behaviorist, and boarder. It can be your place, depending on the service, or mine. I also humanely remove and/or rehabilitate wildlife.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
