- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Since no two projects are exactly the same, I quote each project based on its own merits. That said, I have certain formulas I use for each service that ease the process of calculating a fair quote. I typically provide my quotes as all-inclusive flat rates or if it is a very large project, a ballpark estimate and hourly rate may be employed. Please visit my official website to view pricing details for each of my creative services. I offer a 5% discount to veterans and return clients. Once a quote has been accepted, a special option for my clients: I am open to bartering for my services, in part or in full. I keep an updated list of items and services I am currently accepting as trades, so please request a link and see if there's something you can provide in return!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Regardless of which creative service you are seeking, the typical process starts with collecting some basic information about you and your project or event. Some of this information will be prompted by Thumbtack when you initiate your search for a Pro, but the more thoroughly you describe your project at the start, the better! If you have a specific deadline, budget or other restrictive concern, or if you are unsure about or flexible with certain aspects of your project, please be forthcoming with these, so that I can efficiently produce the best solution to serve your needs. You'll find you're working with a very approachable, patient, professional and compassionate artist dedicated to bringing your vision to life, so ask as many questions as you may have and expect that I will provide thorough answers and recommendations, so you will feel fully involved in the creative process. The following are specifications or other questions I may have about your project, listed by creative service: PORTRAIT ARTISTRY: - Desired Subject(s) (person, place or thing?) - Your "Why?" (what inspired you to commission this portrait?) - Reference Images of Subject(s) (if you have them) - Additional References (other info to help personalize the art?) - Desired Medium (paint, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel, ink, etc?) - Desired Style (cartoony, impressionism, realism, etc?) - Desired Dimensions (estimated size or specific size?) - Desired Deadline for Completion, if any? - Budgetary Restraints (max amount you are comfortable spending?) MURALS: - Desired Subject(s) (person, place or thing?) - Your "Why?" (what inspired you to commission this mural?) - Reference Images of Subject(s) (if you have them) - Additional References (other info to help personalize the mural?) - Desired Location (indoor, outdoor, residential, commercial?) - Mural Surface/Substrate (drywall, brick, concrete, wood or metal?) - Desired Style (cartoony, impressionism, realism, etc?) - Desired Dimensions (estimated size or specific size?) - Site Accessibility (seasonal/security/business hour restraints?) - Desired Deadline for Completion, if any? - Budgetary Restraints (max amount you are comfortable spending?) FACE-PAINTING: - Date, Time and Duration of Face-Painting during Event - Location of the Event Facility (also, indoors or outdoors?) - Purpose of Event (birthday party, wedding, festival, business, etc?) - Is there a theme? - Is this event to benefit a non-profit, campaign or other cause? - Estimated Adults Guests Count - Estimated Children Guest Count - Does this event reoccur annually, semi-annually, etc? Once we have the parameters of the project defined, I will provide either an all-inclusive quote or, in the case of some very large mural projects, a ball-park estimate. Any project or event valued under $150 must be paid in full before any work begins, while projects valued higher than $150 require a $150 or 50% deposit (whichever is greater), with balance due upon proof of completion. I accept Paypal, Venmo, cash or check (checks must clear bank to be considered "paid"). Depending on the scale and scope of the work (usually for moderate to large scale mural projects) I may also require you to sign a contract outlining the project and everything we have mutually agreed upon with regards to design, deadline and payment. DESIGN PROCESS: In the case of murals and most portrait artistry projects, I will produce a digital mock-up of the design when applicable. This serves several purposes: 1) It allows for the client and artist a space to negotiate the design before committing it to canvas, paper or wall surface. If any ideas were miscommunicated or if the client changes their mind about a certain aspect of the project, the design can be readily edited, then approved. Everyone is on the same page! 2) In most cases, the approved design is projected directly on the canvas, paper or wall surface, and then sketched in. This design-transfer process insures efficiency and accuracy. In a handful of projects, using this transfer method is not ideal. Sometimes there are logistical concerns for projection or the design lends itself to stencil, free-hand, pouncing, gridding or some other process. In such cases, I may produce a digital or hand-drawn sketch for you to review and adjust as needed. PRODUCTION: In any given week, I typically have about a dozen projects slated, in various stages of communication, design or production. Some projects are so small that I can complete them inside of a few hours. Some project are so large, they require months of planning and week or months of production with a team. The average project can be completed in a matter of weeks from first communication to end product delivered. Where your project falls in this spectrum will be determined by the parameters of your project, and I will give you my best projection for turn-around time. Your project may also be slated for a future production date, as determined by my waitlist or other factors that may impact your project (example: like seasonal/weather conditions for outdoor murals) During production, you have the option to be sent progress images along the way or let the end result be a surprise (though, truth be told, the digital preview should adequately largely remove surprises! lol) If your project is meant to be a gift to someone else, I will avoid posting progress images anywhere online until the gifting date, like a birthday or Christmas, has passed, to avoid the potential of spoiling your gift. PICK-UP/DELIVERY/SHIPPING: For portrait artistry projects and murals painted offsite, you have the options to pay for insured shipping or pick-up at my studio in Gilsum, New Hampshire. In rare instances where the artwork needs extra special handling or the client is very local and/or has a handicap requiring special assistance from me, I will hand-deliver the artwork at extra charge and at my earliest convenience. ******* Ultimately, it is my goal that you have a 5-Star experience from start to finish and that you'll be willing to rave about it after! Thank you for your business and supporting an artist.
