Yes, I hired Gary thru Thumbtack. He quoted me a price, and came by first to look over the old water heater and the new one he would be installing. Was thorough in his review of the 30 year old water heater before concluding he would be able to do the work. Showed up the next day on time and completed the project in a timely fashion and left the laundry room clean and tidy where the water heater was located. I'm referring him to a friend on account of his wide knowledge of all kinds of repair work, as well as the excellent job he did at the house here. See you again, Gary, for other projects! And thank you, thank you, thank you!!

We needef a plumber in an emergent basis over the New Year's weekend for a burst pipe; subsequently ruining a water heater and hvac. He was there at midnight to cap the pipe, back the next day to repair the pipe. He has also spent considerable time on the phone looking for parts to make those repairs. We are thrilled with Jose. We finally have someone for our plumbing and hvac system that we can totally trust and will come when we need him.

We had a new heating system put in as well as a tankless hot water heater. They also upgraded our electrical panel and put in an electric baseboard in our foyer. The guys were punctual, extremely professional and knowledgeable. I recently had an extremely experienced contactor come through for an unrelated project and he said the work that Three Brothers did was some of the best that he had seen in years. I am more than pleased with the outcome! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend. When I️ realized the heat wasn’t working I️ contacted Mike. He was able to come out same day and fixed the damage caused by a mice infestation! He stayed for as long as needed to fix the serious damage done to the heater. To no fault of his own, the mice got back in the next day and he came immediately to get us up and running. He was able to take preventative measures and made suggestions for us to prevent this in the future. Will definitely hire Mike and his team again.

Galeforce remodeled our main bathroom -put in a new bathtub/shower, vanity, & toilet as well as tiling the vanity area and floor. Their work was perfection - we love our new bathroom! If we had met them earlier - we would have saved time and money on other projects. Vinnie instinctively knows what the cause of a problem is. Our basement had a water leak which was causing a mold issue and he knew right where to look. Years ago a nail had punctured a sewer pipe. He fixed it, replaced the molded wood, and replaced & patched the drywall. We couldn't be happier and would recommend Galeforce to anyone one looking for excellent work, honesty, fair prices, and that step above the rest!

I needed someone asap and Nick was available, quoted his price and I knew it was a good match. He met me at Home Depot to pick up the water heater, the work was done before noon and I am very happy with this company.

Our hot water heater stopped working and Albin quickly got back to us. We got a great rate (as good of a price as you can given how expensive these things are!) he suggest a tankless water heater instead and we are SO happy he did. No complaints on our end!

I don't really write reviews but I was very pleased with the work that this company did for me. We have used them several times and plan to continue to use them in the future with all our plumbing needs. Sean was very diligent in all the work he did for us. He completed the jobs in a timely manner and at a very reasonable price. We had our kitchen updated and Sean put in a beautiful farmers sink with new faucets and disposal. He corrected the piping that was installed wrong from the previous plumber as well. In our newly finished basement we had a full bath put in by him, which came out amazing as well as replaced our water heater. He also re-piped our outside water faucet and replaced our sprinkler that wasn't working. If you are looking for a plumber, I highly recommend this company. He is a reasonable, reliable straight forward plumber with no hidden costs.

Steve was out to do an estimate within and hour, work was started promptly at 9am the next day and was done quickly, efficiently and professionally. Make sure your plumber pulls the permits when replacing a gas water heater. I didn't know we needed to, but Steve took care of it!

I feel fortunate to have been referred to Advanced Plumbing when my water tank burst. Keith is everything you want in a plumber but never expect to get. Professional, skilled, timely, and priced fairly. Aside from saving my butt in emergencies, I hired Keith to install a natural gas heater in my garage. Five stars. Call them and see for yourself.

I have had this company come out to my property to fix a few issues that had occurred over the past two years. They do an outstanding job, are very professional, honest, easy to work with, and always get the job done right at a reasonable price! I had called them last summer when my AC unit was having trouble and I knew it was about time to get a new one, as well as a few weeks ago when I had a leaking hot water heater, which needed to be replaced. Instead of calling multiple companies out of for different types of issues that arise at my home, its nice to know that I can call Penguin out for any sort of plumbing, heating, or cooling problem because they are certified and knowledgable to do it all, and I know I can trust them and rely on them to do a great job while providing me with great customer service. I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone in the valley, and I will continue to use their services because I feel that they truly care about helping me get my home back to normal in a quick and proper manner with zero issues whatsoever.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
