I wrote a previous review in August. Cheryl did my bridal makeup for my wedding as well as my bridesmaids. She was amazing! Makeup did not budge from 8a to 2a the next day. I had 4 outfit changes and was sweating. Only touch up I needed was lipgloss.

I cannot recommend Erin and Laura enough. I hired them to do my wedding makeup and hair for my wedding party. They were very punctual and accommodating, even when I asked for a venue change not long before the date. I showed Laura a few photos of what I wanted and she was able to reproduce the look perfectly. Erin received minimal instructions from me and did a beautiful job with all my bridesmaids. I was warned that non-Asian makeup artists might have trouble working with Asian faces and hair, but these two had no difficulty at all. And for the price, it's a steal.

I hired Theresa Norvicky to do the bridal party’s makeup for my daughter’s wedding at the Harraseeket June 23, 2018. From the very first contact through email and phone calls, Theresa presented as a true professional. She was very detailed in what she offered for services and was very accommodating to meet our groups specific requests and timeline as well. She kept in contact and was very prompt in returning phone calls or emails on any questions or changes we had. As eye lashes later became a request and the mothers of the bride and groom were added to the list, she immediately added an assistant and changed her arrival time in order to meet the demands and timeline of a 1:00 PM wedding. It was very clear Theresa knew the art of makeup.... and was going to make sure each client got the best results !!! Each and every bridesmaid and mother were very very pleased with their makeover ....and the best part my daughter, the bride was amazed how beautiful they all looked! To let you know how good Theresa is at her work of makeup artistry...... my daughter..... the bride , had no intentions of having her makeup done professionally. Even after the rehearsal at the church, the night before ,... she was still saying , “ I’m doing my own makeup. “ After seeing the makeovers of each bridesmaid the day of the wedding, she was amazed what a beautiful job Theresa had done. Needless to say ....at my daughter’s request... Theresa Norvicky did do my daughter’s makeup as well! She not only was beautiful but radiant!! I highly recommend Theresa for your special occasion makeover. She is a true professional makeup artist who cares about the end results. Thanks Theresa for the finishing touches you performed on my daughter’s wedding day! Jayne Libbey

Prior to signing a contract with Sarah, I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to hire a makeup artist for my wedding, solely in the interest of saving money; however, once I met with her for the trial and saw the results, I knew that I had absolutely made the correct decision to hire her! She was professional and accommodating - an absolute pleasure to work with. After seeing photos of my makeup trial, my sister (MOH) and mother both decided that they wanted Sarah to do their makeup as well. The morning of the wedding, she traveled to us for an extremely reasonable fee. All three of us opted for the airbrush foundation, which looked absolutely flawless and didn't feel the least bit heavy. I also opted for the false individual lashes, which look amazing in photos and to my surprise didn't irritate my sensitive, allergy-prone, contact-lensed eyes. In fact, none of the makeup irritated our eyes or skin, and Sarah was gentle when working on our eyes - even my mother who "hates" wearing eye makeup barely flinched when it was her turn! Furthermore, she was friendly and sweet, and made us laugh and feel comfortable. Before leaving, she gave me a brand new lip gloss for touch-ups throughout the night, and despite all the crying, hugging, and dancing that went on, none of my makeup smudged! We all received numerous compliments on how nice our makeup looked, and my husband loved that I still looked like "myself" - not unnatural or overdone. I would absolutely recommend Sarah to anyone seeking a friendly, professional, and talented makeup artist.

I was having trouble finding an airbrush makeup artist, and found Nancy only a few weeks before my wedding. She fit me in for a makeup trial over a holiday weekend and after a fabulous trial, we ended up hiring her immediately! Nancy listens to what you want and adjusts the level & style of makeup accordingly. She also has great suggestions if you are unsure of certain elements of your look, like lips or eyes. She even picked up my lip color for me, which was one less thing for me to worry about in the days leading up to the wedding! She is also warm, friendly, kind, and professional and will put you at ease and help you look your best on your wedding day. One of my top priorities was the staying power of the makeup and it really did last from the first picture until the afterparty. I would highly recommend Nancy for all your bridal makeup needs!

I was very happy with my experience with Sarah. My makeup was beautiful. Sarah also did the makeup for the members of my bridal party, which included 4 adults and 5 young girls. All were beautiful! In addition to the makeup for the actual day, she provided a trial run, the week before my event. Sarah is very personable, as well as being a talented makeup artist. I had never had my makeup done professionally before, and was a little nervous, but she put me at ease immediately. I would definitely recommend Sarah to anyone looking for a makeup artist for their special day.

Jennifer has been my makeup artist for a number of occasions, including my wedding. She is always prompt, and keeps appointments on time, even when dealing with a whole (anxious) bridal party! She comes prepared and easily adapts to any changes (as some nervous brides tend to change the game plan (guilty!)) She uses top quality make-up and is willing to accommodate any special requests. She truly is a master of her art, and at completely reasonable prices! Definitely will be booking another appointment soon, hopefully for eyelash extensions!

I chose Jennifer as the make up artist for my wedding. She made me feel nothing less than a princess on my special day. I wanted my make up to be bold yet elegant for my big day. She got my look just right. I was worried that the makeup might not lasting through all day. However she applied a primer and finished that kept my make up in place. My makeup was on point from the ceremony to the reception as I danced the night away. She was so good with colors. Every member of my bridal party has such different skin tones. My entire bridal party looked flawless thanks to Jennifer. Thank you for making me feel nothing but beautiful on my big day Jennifer you are the best!

Lynne was a miracle to work with - she made my wedding day spectacular and made me feel so beautiful, plus she put all of my bridal party at ease. When I was younger, she also did my prom and semi-formal makeup! She did my gorgeous makeup on the biggest day of my life with false lashes (so natural and effortless in the end) plus my hair and secured in my floral crown. My husband was blown away and later, in my wedding photos, I could see what a difference and impact she made. Thank you forever for a magical experience, Lynne. You are an angel I will hire again and again forever! xo

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

      • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
      • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
      • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
      • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
      • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

      • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
      • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
      • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
      • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
      • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
      • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
      • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
