Perfect work, protected all areas they would walk or be in. Installed a new drywall ceiling in a bedroom. The price included taping, spackling, sanding and painting. His men were quiet and very polite also cleaned up everything. When I sent them a message about the job, I got a response the same day. We will be using A.D.A.D. Construction for more jobs, they are prompt, professional and courteous.

We hired Dan to tile our kitchen floor. Our major concern was a transition from the new tile to a hard wood floor. Dan explained how he would lay out the floor and addressed the transition. He showed up on time as scheduled and completed the job within the time frame he outlined. The final product is a wonderful new kitchen floor that transitions smoothly to the foyer. I would definitely recommend Dan.

Glen and his crew did an excellent job laying my natural stone floors. From the first conversation, I knew they were knowledgeable and professional. The installers worked with my family so that we could maintain our normal routines as much as possible during the installation. The flooring installation exceeded my expectations. Glen worked with my budget and provided helpful suggestions to save money. I look forward to a long relationship with JR Custom Builders as they are coming back to renovate my kitchen.

Eric did a great job overall for a very reasonable price. He painted most of the interior rooms in my house, including some spackling, fixing drywall issues, doing some touch up, etc. I hope to have him back out for other work in the future.

Very professional job. Prompt response- started working the day I put the request out. Job took a bit longer than it could have, but that is ok. Was more expensive than other bids, but quality was likely higher as Jerry is a drywall professional. Quality of work is excellent.

I hired Kevin to help do some wiring, framing, and drywall so I would be able to mount a tv in a difficult location. He was very knowledgeable and was able to find some creative ways to get around a few unexpected problems he encountered once the wall was opened up. Another contractor I had come to look at the project told me it was no possible and left but now the job is done and my tv looks great with no wires showing.

I wish I could give more than five stars! We’ve had several highly-recommended and well-respected handymen and general contractors over the years and, without a doubt, Hill Home Improvement tops them all! I had an area of moisture-damaged drywall with mold that needed replacing, preferably as soon as possible because of the mold. Rob, the owner, responded to my Thumbtack inquiry in less than an hour. We spoke over the phone right away and he offered to come right over to provide an assessment and within 25 minutes of our call he was here! And it was 9:30 at night! - just goes to show Rob’s dedication and commitment to helping his clients. During his assessment, Rob was very professional, courteous, thorough, and knowledgeable of the problem at hand. What I appreciated the most was his unwavering integrity - he walked me through the plan and all costs; he wanted to complete the project properly while being very conscious of the cost for me. His prices were very very fair. He came the following day with one other worker. They were punctual, got right to work and were in and out so quickly - within an hour! The quality of work was exceptional. I couldn’t be happier! Thank you so much, Rob! Looking forward to many more projects together!

We recently purchased our first home and immediately started a kitchen remodel (including tearing down a wall and framing new ones). We had existing plaster walls, and I was originally looking at drywalling for all the repairs and new walls. Jon recommended putting plaster back into place, and we are very satisfied with the results after hiring him to do the work. Yes, the work was very well done and our home was left as clean as you could reasonably expect it to be after the work, but I think what most impressed me about working with Jon was his communication. He was always easy to get a hold of when needed and constantly provided me with progress updates for the project. Any questions I (a confessed drywall/plaster dummy) had, were answered in a way that I could understand. We would likely hire Jon again if we need wall work done once we recover from this renovation and start our next!

Overall excellent experience with Lee. He offered a fair price, answered all my texts and was very flexible with scheduling. In addition he did outstanding work. Mount installed in under an hour, and even brought his own hooks for a drywall mount. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a professional TV mounting job.

I hired stp to hang, tape and sand drywall, etc. Not only were they reasonably priced, the job was complete in days, it was done correctly. Anyone who has hung drywall before knows how meticulous it has to be to be done right. I would recommend this company to anybody. Joe is an honest individual who stands by his work... and most importantly, his word.

Bryan did an awesome job for a great price! We needed drywall hung and spackled in our second floor bathroom and he got it all done in record time. He even added on a few finishing touches that we hadn’t thought of to make the space look even better, for no extra cost. The job was professionally done at a price that we could not beat - we would for sure hire Bryan again for future projects.

Olly arrived on time and did what he said he would do. He was personable, timely, and tidy. We needed to have the drywall behind our water heater replaced due to water damage, before we could have the new water heater installed. We also decided we wanted to complete the ceramic tile flooring that had been installed around the around water heater but not under it, so that the new water heater will rest on tile at the same level as the rest of the floor. This required carefully removing the tiles that had been cut to curve around it, then installing new tiles to fill in the gap. The work was cleanly-finished, with respectable craftsmanship, and Olly also left that part of our utility room way cleaner than he found it. Olly will now be our go-to person for small projects and repairs around our house.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
