FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have a standard pricing system and it is very clear. I charge $90/hour and $80/hour for skype/facetime classes, and I grant discounts if someone buys a considerable amount of classes in advance.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First it is very important for me to create an environment that makes the costumer feel really comfortable and relaxed. This is very important to take in information and learn. I have a more typical process with total beginners, although it is never the same with 2 students. I work with groups and more one on one and my strength is to tailor the classes to the needs of my clients. I am very engaged in seeing where someone stands with their knowledge, but also with their favorite or best style to learn and their personality. It is very important to me that understanding, reading, writing and talking in the language are worked on. I use different methods to help my students to talk, since that is the hardest part for almost everyone. I record them, and we correct listening together, we listen to native speakers on recordings and radio pieces. In my years of experience I gathered a lot of material from various sources. I am very open to feedback and adapt my class to what the individual needs to progress fastest. All in all: I always create a class anew, there is none the same. I always work with new material and it is always interesting.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied German and English Grammar and Literature at University in Vienna and have been teaching (mostly part time for many years) for about 20 years. I trained mostly by finding out what makes my students progress fastest, and by reading about the psychology of learning and educating. Another source for me was and is my German teacher in High School, she was very inspiring and since we are in touch again since a few months, she shares from her teaching experience and also material.
