Great experience with Bugged Out Pest Management! John was super quick to respond to my initial inquiry, which is so important when you're worried about an infestation! They sent someone out next day in the morning, and Richard was on time, friendly, and quick with his inspection. He explained everything clearly and put my mind at ease. When I saw some bugs the next week I sent a photo to the team and they responded right away with what they were and how I could remedy them. If I ever have a scare again I'll definitely call these guys!

Terminators Pest thoroughly eradicated my bed bug infestation. Gerry and Lisa were professional and knowledgeable. They came out for a second inspection and put my anxiety to rest. I would highly recommend this company, my experience with the initial intake through email right down to the technicians went above and beyond my expectations. I hope never to need an exterminator again , but if I do , I will call them.

Mr. J's service was impeccable. My family and I were pleasantly pleased and satisfied with his work. We discovered we had a case of bedbugs and Mr. J went above and beyond to show us where they live and where to look, soon enough we became experts at finding bedbugs. He worked meticulously and efficiently doing a thorough inspection in each room. Thanks to his thorough inspection the first time we didn't find anymore bedbugs. He came three weeks later for a follow up and he was once again thorough and professional. Definitely wished that we found him before contacting the big companies with canines, they were expensive and not as thorough as Mr. J. Will definitely recommend him for anyone who needs an exterminator!

Ray showed up on time and fully inspected my house - garage, basement, kitchen, exterior. He found a number of holes that he closed. Pulled out my stove and helped me clean. Very personable. I went with a 3 month contract - so he will be back every 4 months to inspect. He said if I see any other problems in the meantime, he will come back in advance of our existing appointment schedule. Very personable and nice guy

Pros in Control worked very well with me when I had a very bad case of bed bugs in my home. Their prices were great, and they cleaned my house from the little bugs completely. They answered my phone call on my first call and gave me a free inspection. I would recommend these guys 100% for any infestation problems.

The technician showed up on time, was very helpful in making me aware of the different products he was using, and was also great working around my two cats and niece. He just conducted his last inspection after he treated for bedbugs, and its been three weeks and I think its safe to say they're all gone. He also gave me a great deal on his pest preventative services which I didn't hesitate signing up for because of my proximity to a landfill, there's a lot of rodents and other critters that come to my property.

Initially I wasn’t happy with the quality of work. The owner had one of his employees come out and do the initial consultation and follow up, but he didn’t really do much of anything. There were still rats running around and I was catching more rats with my Victor traps. After explaining my dissatisfaction with the owner, he personally came out twice a week every week to do a THOROUGH inspection and to check his old traps and re bait the bait stations for FREE. I told him where I was hearing the scratching noises and he was able to actually find the sources of how the rats were getting in. He patched up all of the holes in the exterior yard that was connected to the neighbors’ yards and patched up the internal holes underneath the kitchen sinks. On top of all of this, every time he came out after our conversation he was punctual, sometimes he even got to my house before I did and started working before our scheduled appointment time. He lives in the Bronx, I live in Newark. After his most recent visit I am happy to report that it seems we are rat-free! All that’s left is to monitor. Way to turn things around. I’m heavily considering the quarterly service he offers, just to maintain our home in its rat-free state!

Meeting Bill Hernandez was such a pleasure! he arrived on time and if fact was a bit early! He showed me things in my house (now that I've bought it!) that I'd never have know to check for these issues!. He was so knowledgeable and I know I will be a better home owner for the things he showed me. I know where all my shut off valves are, where I should add insulation to save money on my heating bill, where I should watch for any water issues. Those are just a few things I learned. I'm glad Bill did my home inspection! Elly

Sam was very professional and friendly. He came out and did a thorough walk through and inspection. Gave me different options. He was not pushy trying to sell expensive plans which made the experience more comfortable. I definitely would recommend Sam to everyone. The most important thing to me was that he arrived on time as scheduled.

My experience was great. I apparently called during a promotional period, so the price was only $65 for same day service. They were able to inspect my place and put down some bait gel (a process I normally hate doing myself, so I was glad to pay the money). I would say they could improve by keeping the price at $65 at all future visits, for all clients. I was told it was normally upwards of $250 for same day service, which seems a bit steep for putting down bait gel in cabinet corners. But they were very friendly and helpful, and like I said, I was glad to pay the $65 to know I was getting a solution. And will do so again when I need to get it reapplied in 3 or 4 months.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

Are termites harmful to humans?

Termites are harmful to humans in that they can eat a home from the inside out. But unlike some other insects, termites don’t carry infection, nor do they bite or feed off people like parasitic bedbugs. So while they’re not harmful to your health, they can be extremely harmful to your wallet. The EPA reports that every year termites cause billions of dollars of structural damage in the United States. Immediate action and treatment is the best approach if you see signs of termites. The national average cost for an exterminator ranges from $250 to $400, but costs may be higher if you have a whole house infestation on your hands. Here are a few examples of average cost:

  • Standard liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot. An extermination company may have a minimum service fee, such as $150, to come out and provide treatment, no matter how small the space.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites including foaming and drilling into concrete slabs: $4-$5 per linear foot.
  • Liquid treatment of a 2,000-square-foot home for subterranean termites: approximately $400.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home. Pros measure fumigation costs in cubic feet. Fumigation costs can also be affected by the number of stories in your home.
