"Mr Kurt Anthony" did wallpaper removal, wallpaper installation, wall repair and paint for me. He did a remarkable job across the board. He came on time with all supplies and a pleasant attitude. He was patient and never rushed, and actually quite a perfectionist which was a pleasant surprise. We worked out a fair price and the work was excellent. Thank you and praises to "Mr Kurt Anthony!"

Celso did an excellent job. I had wallpaper to be taken down and new wallpaper to be put up and he did both perfectly and leaving zero mess. He moved all of my furniture out of the way and replaced it carefully when finished. He was on time, friendly and efficient. I would recommend him to anyone. Thanks so much Celso!

They were absolutely super! Incredibly neat and clean. The work was very professional - and amazingly well-done. They had to insulate, redo walls and ceilings (all due to water damage) and remove wallpaper, etc. They also painted a kitchen with a cathedral ceiling (super-fantastic job!)! The men working were also very respectful to my elderly Mom (always a serious bonus). Truly can't say enough about how impressed I was with the quality of the work performed by them!

Dean and his crew did a great job. There was a lot of wallpaper removal, drywall repair, and painting, including a 2-story stairwell. We had a tight deadline to finish before the carpet installation and they were willing to work over the weekend to get it done. Always cleaned up and even mopped the floors. I will hire them again. Very competitive pricing as well.

Joe Schallock did an excellent job. In one room he removed both difficult wallpaper and the residual glue patches. He then primed and painted and the paint, and the crown molding and trim, came out beautifully. We then asked him to re-paint a small hallway. This job too he did expertly and quickly. I appreciated his teaching me something about paint and how it dries, and I also appreciated how carefully he cleaned up after finishing working. I recommend him highly!

I recently engaged Mr. Rini to paint several rooms in my home in addition to removing wallpaper in a small bathroom and large bedroom. All rooms were in poor condition with dog stains and holes left by the previous occupant. Mr. Rini did a beautiful job. Everyone who sees these rooms compliments on how clean and bright they are. He prepped the walls in all areas and spackled before painting. Mr. Rini left all areas completely clean upon completion of the work removing trash to the outside trash container. He is pleasant and more than willing to advise if or when necessary. I would be happy to hire him again.

Brian was a true professional from start to finish. Excellent communication from my first contact, and he quoted a fair price. He is obviously an expert and he did everything, from patching and priming the wall to bringing the adhesive and all necessary materials. My room looks beautiful! Highly recommend, MORE than 5 stars.

About

Some painting companies send over a crew and you deal with a foreman. With Scott Painting, the owner is on the job 100% of the time. I work alone and take a lot of pride in my work. Many years ago, I was trained by a craftsman. Helpers today don't take that same pride, and can't produce the craftsmanship that the painters did years ago. If you are a perfectionist looking for fine craftsmanship then feel free to call me and discuss your job in further detail.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

  • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
  • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
  • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
  • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
  • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
  • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
  • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
  • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
