Reggie and team were outstanding. I moved cross-country (more than 2,500 miles) for a new job and they handled essentially everything. Below are just a few key items that made my moving experience enjoyable: 1) All boxes were accounted for and intact upon delivery (i.e., no broken mirrors or glassware, no scratched furniture, etc.) 2) Pricing was accurate and up-front (no hidden fees, etc.). Various payment methods made it more convenient too. 3) Communication was always there and constant. Reggie answered all of my questions and took the time to explain to me the overall process. (Bonus: They notified me a few days prior to their arrival at final destination, so that I can make adequate arrangements beforehand.) 4) Friendly, courteous, and approachable demeanor. 5) Timeliness (always on time) and efficiency of pick-up and delivery. The crew was in and out and carried my items without damaging my furniture against walls or dropping boxes. Overall, Reggie and Movers-For-A-Cause have left a very positive impression on me. For these reasons, they come highly recommended. Should you need moving assistance (as I did) don’t risk it with our companies or pay extra — go with the pro’s at Movers-For-A-Cause.

They were very flexible with us and our schedule changing after a cross-country move. The guys were genuinely nice, fast, and efficient. Got more than we expected into our little UHaul trailer to pickup some larger items and cross the city. The manager (owner?) Was also incredibly responsive through the whole process. Would definitely recommend or turn to for help again.

The whole process was seamless and efficient from the beggining. A representative made sure to be available and answer all of my questions, responding promptly and in detail. When move day came, the movers were on time, they made sure to confirm every detail again and began work on the spot. They were fast, careful and honestly the whole experience was impressive. Within 3 hours I was at my new place ready to go. It was all extremely affordable considering what other moving companies were willing to charge. It helped to have everything packed and ready to go, but I would definitely hire them again for my next move.

I've moved many times in my life, a bit nomadic really. I've moved nationally and internationally - and this was the BEST experience I've ever had moving. I was able to work with Lazhur, the owner directly, who smartly came to my studio apartment and gave me a quote to move. He was fair, honest, timely and affordable. The most important part of the move were the movers themselves. His team were professional, gracious, and on time, both for pickup and delivery. They did every thing they promised. I would 100% use them again. Amazing.

We used White Glove to move across the country and every part of the service was great. The movers Vince, Frank and Willie were careful and thorough packaging up everything and there was no damage at all. Frank and Samantha from the office were very helpful, explained everything and there were no hidden fees. Charging per item rather than cubic feet made everything easier as I could do my own inventory. Would use White Glove again!

Denver is a long way from New York but that is where I had to move one month ago. I have relocated twice before and both were very painful memories. Something always went wrong. But thanks to AV Moving, nothing as such happened this time. This company defines professionalism. Their movers are very well trained, punctual and helpful. I think I found every personnel associated with this company very helpful. They kept me in loop from the get go and didn’t get annoyed when I called asking the whereabouts of my belongings. I was so impressed seeing how professional and efficient the four movers were. They also unpacked everything when they made the delivery. I’m sure I will relocate sometime soon again and I will only hire them.

I hired Riley & Sons to move me across the country. The entire process couldn't have been smoother. The movers were courteous and professional, and they efficiently wrapped every piece of furniture. Upon arrival, they quickly unloaded, placing everything where I requested. There was nothing broken or scratched. It was a positive experience and I highly recommend them.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
