FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Generally, I charge $2.25 per page, but I can base prices off of word count. A few things: 1) I consider a “page” to be size 12, Times New Roman font, double spaced, with 1" margins. This is the same formatting literary magazines and agents usually ask for. It also allows me a consistency with all my clients in terms of pages/timing/pricing. I prefer to work in Microsoft Word, but if you don't have that word processor there are many other ways we can work or even convert the files back and forth. You email me the manuscript, I edit right on that file, save it and email the edited/commented version back to you. 2) PayPal is my preferred method for transactions. I ask for a portion of the payment (around 50%) to be paid when you send me the manuscript and the remainder sent after I've re-delivered it to you. When sending the money, please choose the "Friends/Family" option. I’m a freelance editor and choosing the "Goods/Services" option makes PayPal think I'm a large company and they charge me a percentage. If finances are an issues, we can easily work out another payment plan that better fits your budget. My business model is to build a long-term relationship, so I'm as flexible as my clients need me to be.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The typical process begins with the client expressing any concerns or areas of focus for me with their manuscript. Following that, I take 50% of the final payment we have agreed upon once the manuscript is given to me, then I begin work. Depending on the size, it typically takes me about a week to go through the manuscript and return it. Once I have completed, I request the remaining 50% of the payment and I return the manuscript immediately. Along with the final edited manuscript, I provide a 3-4 page write-up about strengths, weaknesses, and overall feedback. Following this, I leave the lines of communication open with clients to contact me with any questions or concerns. I always welcome feedback of any kind!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've earned my MFA in Creative Writing. For those unfamiliar with an MFA degree, it's a graduate degree in creating our own writing (my final thesis is a publishable book), studying both past and contemporary authors, and analyzing the myriad aspects that go into telling a story -- all with published novelists and current editors/agents in the field.
