About
Online and in-studio sessions are billed at the standard studio rate. Phil Circle has opened a space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rates are $60 per hour unless you buy a block of four. Then it's $225 for fours lessons. Phil Circle Music also employs several teachers at the Chicago location, with lessons ranging from $65-80 per hour, depending on whether they're foundational or intermediate-advanced. MY BIO: Phil Circle Music was Rated in the Top 12 Music Schools and Private Lesson Facilities in Chicago for FIVE YEARS IN A ROW, in L.A. for TWO YEARS. I AM ACCEPTING STUDENTS IN ALBUQUERQUE AND ONLINE. I've been a working musician for 30+ years and officially began teaching in 1993. I have a degree in Music Composition and Performance from Columbia College Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). I bring my experience to my teaching, tailoring lessons to a student's specific needs while making sure that she/he/they have the tools needed to master their instrument. Whether he/she/they are a professional, an aspiring pro, or a hobbyist, music is the most fun when you have the necessary skills to do it well. By understanding everything about your instrument, you can apply your knowledge and ability to any style you enjoy. The mystery shouldn't be in the theory or technique. It exists in the individual's need to create. I also work with everyone to find ways to develop their creative voice, their own unique style. As a singer-songwriter-guitarist and "DIY" and "Indie" before they were called that, I've used my lifelong career to also bring knowledge of the real world to aspiring musicians. I also coach people on the business end of music, songwriting, production, working in the studio, audition prep, and working in the studio. You can learn more about me, read reviews and hear my work on my main page or by simply doing a search for Phil Circle Music. I love the creative process. This includes teaching. Finding ways to understand each individual's needs, figuring out how they learn and applying this to their growth...so much of what I do involves being creative. So much of the rest is about giving. Performing and teaching, at their essence, are giving arts. It's incredibly rewarding.

I did lessons for several years with Phil, and I might resume soon. That's one thing - he teaches how to fish! He gave me the tools and the framework to guide my own technique and compositional development. So, when I said bye-for-now, he said 'great!'.In the meantime, I've gotten to perform my own compositions (with an ensemble) in Carnegie Hall. I'm very proud of my compositions and Phil helped guide me from early fleeting ideas to where I am now. I'm by no means a pro, but I have had my work performed on three continents!Phil is great at focusing on the aspects that matter to you, and combining his own experience with tools to help with introspection so that you can guide yourself. I really enjoyed my time in these lessons.

It’s always a pleasure working with you. And professionalism is a state of mind, not a career choice. I would say you’re a pro.

My goal was to learn to read music and play classical guitar. After four lessons I am going to learn a waltz. Looking forward to working further with Phil Circle. He is an excellent teacher of theory and technique. He is a very attentive coach for good technique. I have nothing but good things to say about Phil and his music school. Also it goes without saying he is a very gifted guitar player and vocalist.
Phil Circle Music's reply
You’re doing all the right kind of work. Knowing what we need is half the battle. Thanks Neil! It’s my pleasure.

Phil was one of the first mentors I had when I really started getting into music and learning how to grow as a singer and guitarist. Music has always been a passion and creative outlet for me, and he played a huge role in helping me level up early on.Years later Im still reaching out to him for advice. What makes Phil different is while he has an incredibly expertise in the technical side of music, he also artistry, performance, and the industry as a whole, and has lots of connections. If youre serious about growing in the music industry or just want to become a better musician, Id definitely recommend working with him.

Adult music education is very much like mentoring when we work at a pro level. That whole artist approach is essential, too.

Phil is a great, multi-faceted music instructor/coach. I hit him up for vocal lessons, but we also covered guitar and overall music career path as well. I still use our recorded vocal warm ups years later!I recommend working with Phil!
Phil Circle Music's reply
Thanks Zach! Yep, creating custom vocal warmups is always beneficial. You can allow them to evolve as you move forward, too!

Phil is an incredible teacher, friend, and mentor who will meet you where you are and help you grow both as a musician and as a person. I studied voice and guitar with Phil for over two years, and I looked forward to every lesson with him. Phil takes a holistic approach to music - he will not only help you improve your technique, but also build your confidence and find how music fits into your life. Whether you're a writer, performer, or hobbyist, you can't go wrong with Phil.
Phil Circle Music's reply
Thank you kindly. Yes! It’s a collaborative approach. I’m walking the path with you.
