We are moving out of state and had some old furniture that we just couldn't seem to get rid of. We decided to look on Thumbtack for a removal contractor and had several replies, Rick gave the best quote so we called him. By 8 am the next morning, he had a full couch, a love seat, all the cushions, a full sized recliner, a twin mattress, a twin box frame, a coffee table and two end tables all expertly packed on his one pickup truck and strapped down good...nothing would be flying off. He's a Navy man with a can-do attitude and a really nice guy besides. We aren't done with him, we have more stuff to get rid of before we leave, he will be getting the call. Go ahead and call him, he's not sketchy or weird, he just shows up, shakes your hand with a smile and gets to work. Highly recommended!

This review is to offset a screwed up review I left on this contractor that was supposed to go to another contractor. I did not mean to leave the review for this contractor and am very sorry for the misunderstanding. Disalvo works hard for every 5 Star he as received. FEEL ASSURED THAT YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS WITH DISALVO

So I tried to install this dog door in the wall. Well the outside just got blown out. I requested a handyman service and these guys showed up within the hour. They scoped the job, went and picked up the material and returned and completed the repair to the wall and then finished the install of the doggie door. I was very pleased they were able to do it the same day and to show up so quickly too. Thank you guys. They do all sorts of miscellaneous jobs, electrical, paint and so forth. If you need something done call these guys.

We just had our home painted by Renew-All Construction & Repair LLC. They're a tight knit family owned company and they make a great team. We were really happy with their customer service focus. They do not rest until you are satisfied with the results. The are responsive and go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied with the results. Every time I texted or called , I got an immediate response. I don't think I've had a contractor be so accommodative in the past as this team was when painting our home. I have dealt with other painters and have noticed many mistakes long after they were gone. This company took pride in their work and did as much "touching up" as necessary to make sure the results were as close to perfect as possible. They are reasonably priced and we would definitely call them again when needed. Oh, and unlike a lot of other contractors and painters, they don't leave a mess!!!! Thank you all for all the hard work!!

Was the only one that came out and looked a project. Gave a fair price and started next day. These projects included, remodeling master closet, removing and reinstaling cabinets, painting, installing new faucet and electrical. Showed up on time for 3 days until all projects were completed. I would definitely recommend Mike and will use him again.

I needed a large wall niche perimeter & diagonally framed in, then drywalled, textured and installed an electrical outlet. Gil arrived on time, was courteous, professional, and did an outstanding job. And the price was very fair.

Good morning! My fiancée and I moved in into our home about 8 months ago. We fell in love with everything that this house had to offer EXCEPT the backyard wall and the area around the waterfall. Whoever did it, did a horrible job. I was browsing around on the net for specialist in this area, stucco repair etc. and that is how I found Ruben and his company. He responded to my request within 24 hours and barely two days later my yard looks like paradise. The price was fair and the job was very well done!!! He was approachable, friendly and knew what he was doing. We would -for sure- hire him again!!!!! Thank You!!!!

From the moment I talked to this gentleman I knew he would do a fabulous job. Besides being on time and doing an outstanding job putting a backsplash in kitchen - he had some wall repairs as well in kitchen. Now for the rest! He is very methodical about doing his work, does not rush through a job to finish it. He is very polite. I will use him again to paint our kitchen ceiling. If the need arises that I need to be out of house when he does the work, I know he is trustworthy to be alone. Nice family man.

Josiah was great! We had to take an old reach-in closet and make room for a new IKEA closet. He sent over a professional quote and set a start date and time. We estimated the project to take about a week and it did. He started by deconstruction on the wall. He removed debris and then built the closet system. Then, he installed the unit. He finished by painting and trimming. The closet is 100x better and more functional than it was before and I am so grateful for all his hard work. He worked from morning until night and didn’t take any breaks but to go get supplies! He is a hard worker and very responsive. I will hire him again!

Hired Mike and his crew to patch the wall where I had a dog door installed. It involved framing out the the hole, putting up new drywall inside and matching the texture, and new stucco outside matching the texture and existing paint. Mike came out to quote the job and was clear with his price and expected time to completion. I expressed my need to get the job done faster and he rose to the occasion, getting it done a day earlier than promised. He showed up on time with a competent and friendly crew. They worked quickly and worked well and cleaned up their mess when they were done. The guys were obviously skilled in their respective crafts (a stucco guy, a drywall guy, and Mike as the painter). Would definitely recommend Mike and his guys. They weren't the cheapest bid I received, but they were pro and got it done right.

The overall job was very good and the price was good but seems a bit of a communication error as he left one room completely undone and then said it would cost more to paint it as he was packing up and leaving. The quote stated the interior of the house walls not "some" of the walls.

WVMM was hired to install two ceiling fans in our patio ceiling. Built into the back of the house, the patio has a hip roof with a wall board ceiling. There was a plated outlet in the center of the ceiling with switched power. The basic job was two install the two fans evenly spaced hitting the 1/3 spots in the ceiling using the already existing power. After checking things out, they were off to the hardware store to get the appropriate hardware. Work started immediately upon return. As with all modifications to existing structures, you cannot know for sure what you will find until you open the walls. So not everything was as it appeared from checking out the clues on the visible ceiling. One of the interesting problems: Behind one of the wall board seams where there should have been a stud there was a 24" gap of open attic, so the ceiling had to be opened to install a cross beam between rafters to provide a support mount for the fan. There were a few other surprises that made one wonder how the house passed inspection when it was built 15 years ago. In the end the fans worked fine, the work was quality, and the wallboard ceiling was repaired so you could not tell it had been opened. The pair doing the work knew the work required and were friendly and personable. Turns I had some background in common with one of them. My only criticism would be that occasionally they were a bit disorganized, such as: making multiple trips to the truck to get the occasional tool or electrical part instead of having their tools set and hardware on a cart; or, getting partway though a task and having to back up because they realized they missed a step. Hence, I gave them only a good rating instead of excellent.

Ryan and his partner jess are wonderful to have lawn and handyman services from. They are very knowledgeable about what HOA'S require. Punctuality and professional attire/attitude and commitment is what they demonstrate. I am disabled, and they are so helpful to me. I don't have to worry and wait on anyone to do anything, I can call them and they are there the next day. Very flexible with their schedules. Even work weekends. I recommend them with high 5🌟'S. I have hired them to be on permanently, for services and the pricing for the services rendered is not padded, you get charged EXACTLY what your quoted. Thank you, thumbtack& Ryan&Jess.

Victor will work with you to get the job done right. He is very flexible, calm, and takes time to understand the scope and calls you immediately with curveballs or ways to improve the project or save money. After searching and dealing with too many contractors that just want to do a wishy-washy job one time and get out, this company is a refreshing change that I would hire again and refer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
