His side man did the work. He tore up my concrete sidewalk and steps and the end of my driveway completely replaced them. It turned out beautifully and is commercial grade quality. He was timely and neat and super friendly. He will help me replace the wooden porch stairs tomorrow.

I had some pavers that I wanted put down and a friend told me he would do it. Well the original work was not as professional as I had hoped so I submitted my project to have the pavers taken up, leveled off and put back down. Sean was the first person to respond. I posted pictures and he gave me a rough estimate. He also called me which I appreciated. I had a short window in which I needed the project completed so I was happy he was able to accommodate my time schedule. He did an excellent job. The work looks great. I've gotten a lot of compliments from the neighbors. Sean was professional and neat - which I appreciate. He left the area cleaner than when he started. I will definitely hire him again for any future work I may need. Great guy!

A++! Mike did our small patio job on the spot. We are extremely pleased with the quality work. Without hesitation, we would recommend him to others. We'll have him back when we decide on extending our paver patio. Thanks again!

I've dealt with numerous contractors over the years, hands down Custom Curb Appeal led the way with outstanding service from the sales person to all of the employees and having the owner Keith walk me through the finished project was outstanding in itself. My new driveway and patio exceeded my expectations by a million. They left my property cleaner than when they got there. 2 thumbs up to the moon from me. I'd recommend Keith and Custom Curb Appeal to anyone and everyone I meet.

Tyler snow plowed our driveway in the winter. His price was very competitive and it included shoveling our front sidewalk and porch. Tyler was extremely reliable. He always cleared our driveway early in the morning so we would be able to easily drive out as needed. The plow damaged a small area of our lawn, but Tyler reseeded it in the spring. He also gave us a large discount to perform spring cleanup and mulch our flower beds. His price beat the competition's prices by a large margin. We will definetly hire Tyler again. We recommend him highly.

I found Frank on Thumbtack. Before he quoted me he drove out to my house to look at the job. What I loved is that he said he could do what I had asked for (for the same price as the other Thumbtack quote I received) but he also suggested that he fix a patch in my driveway. He and his brother did a fabulous job. They were neat and the driveway looks great.

They replaced my asphalt driveway with concrete and my sidewalks as well. The overall appearance is very good, and the concrete was sealed with clear sealer. The boss is very meticulous and really cares about each job. My only criticism, and it is minor, is that he is spread a little too thin and can't watch everything at each job as it progresses. His crews were good at what they do, and work very hard. What more can you ask?

Matt did a great job explaining what he was going to do with the driveway apron and answered all of the questions I had. The work was completed quickly and now that the whole driveway is sealed, nobody would know the apron was redone. The nice new and fresh looking driveway really adds a nice curb appeal to the house.

Everblak was the third company that we contacted to get a driveway estimate. The first estimate was right out of the bad-salesman playbook: " Don't tell my son I gave you this price, etc etc . We do everything in one day.." Huh? The second sales man was not bad, but their company had some had some negative reviews thata were disturbing. Everblak was fantastic. One company had a slightly lower price, but were very sketchy. Not only was Everblak competitive, but their communication was fantastic. Nick always answered his phone, listened to our concerns, and was on top of things. My wife loves the fact that they have an office that answers the phone. The driveway looks terrific, and I have no worries whatsoever. I even got to meet the owner, Joe. Thanks, Everbalk for a great experience.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

        • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
        • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
        • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
        • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
        • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
        • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

        What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
