Jessica Lynn Williams’ design is in one word: INSPIRED. I originally contacted Jessica to help me with some interior design pieces for my new Hamptons’ restaurant, The Harbor Raw Bar and Lounge. What Jessica ended up giving me was an entire design concept, from soup to nuts, that not only completely transformed the space, but a concept that has the longevity to provide our customers with an overall experience every time they enter the restaurant. The original space was a worn-down dive bar full of clutter, but absent of personality and a clear concept. Jessica saw past the clutter and envisioned a whimsical beach restaurant/bar that easily transitioned into a rich nighttime lounge. As our budget was modest, Jessica went above and beyond to find vintage pieces that she repurposed by hand to create the customized beach look for the space. As a first time restaurant owner trying to develop a design concept, Jessica was the perfect balance of guiding my vision yet also giving her professional opinion to create the final product. She did this by constantly providing visual mood boards of every piece of sourced furniture, paint colors, fabrics, light fixtures to be put into the space, and also visually mocked up versions of the space itself. With her level of detail to the mood boards and mocked up images, I could envision the final space before it was even finished. This helped tremendously to ease my nerves, while also serving as a great guide for our contractor during the remodeling process. Being an older structure, there were so many “happy accidents” that occurred almost daily during the construction process. This could easily put stress on a designer, but Jessica handled all it all in stride and turned every potential problem into something better than ever imagined. For example, when we took down a paneled wall between the kitchen and dining room, we found out there wasn’t an actual wall there. Jessica turned the opening into an open kitchen and a place for our raw bar. I couldn’t complete this review without mentioning Luke Williams, Jessica’s husband. Luke was an added bonus that truly blew away all of my expectations. Luke created the visual branding for the space, from everything to the logos, outdoor signage, menus, website…even the customized type on our matches! Luke was able to create a “logo suite” with all different variations of our logo. This logo suite is still vital to our business today, as we use it for all of our marketing and promotional materials. He created the Harbor Logos to have a thoughtful, sophisticated personality, and this was instrumental in our first impressions to the public. Jessica and Luke worked in tandem on many of the projects within the space, and the outcome was incredible. In particular, Jessica sourced vintage, nautical paint by number paintings which Luke then put on a typographical overlay with whimsical phrases, such as “Not all who wander are lost", “Enjoy an Oyster.” Luke also used inspired quotes to decorate the walls and doors of the space, such as “The First Man gets the Oyster, the Second Man gets the Shell” and “Meet Me in Montauk.” Additionally Luke created carved wooden menu boards with terms such as “Journey”, “Embark”, “Wander” that add to the level of design detail throughout the space. All of these pieces are highly photographed moments at the Harbor and are all due to Luke’s visual thoughtfulness within Jessica’s inspired design. Really they were the dream team. A restaurant opening calls for quick, correct decisions, and last minute requests. Jessica and Luke handled it all with professionalism, thoughtfulness, and a wonderful attitude. Jessica and Luke Williams are both down right talented and it shows within all of their designs. I would recommend Jessica and Luke to anyone who is thinking about getting design work done. I have a few other projects on the horizon and they will be the first I will call for any of my design needs. They are truly terrific!
