Everything about off-site power cleaning greasy kitchen fan filters was clear and delivered as promised. That included an on-site warning that it would take more days than planned to clean the filters and so delivery had to be re-scheduled. I would definitely use this team again for anything else I needed.

Dimitri and his team were amazing! Unfortunately, they had a flat tire on the way here but called to apologize and let us know they were running late. One here, they did an amazing job cleaning our vents, bathroom exhausts, dryer vent, and fireplace. Dimitri took the time to answer all of our questions and gave us tips on how to appropriately maintain our vents and fireplace. They truly were excellent to work with. Highly recommended!!

Teddy did my backsplash for my new kitchen. He was punctual and efficient. He is experienced and knowledgeable in his craft and has done a BEAUTIFUL job. I hired him to come back and do other things in my new house. And I am sure he will be doing my other projects in the future. In addition, he is personable and a very nice person. I had several estimates done before I hired him. The estimates were very close to each other and reasonable. But it was his positive energy that I picked up from our conversations that made me decide to go with him.

Great experience from beginning to end!! Craig quickly responded to my inquiries on thumbtack. He gave us a fair estimate of what the job (hanging barn doors in our dining room) would cost. He was right on time when he came to look at the job in person and on the day the job was schedule he even waited for my husband (who was stuck in traffic) to get home. He completed the job in a few hours. The quality of his work was excellent and he even did a fabulous job cleaning up. Needless to say I am very happy and would highly recommend Craig's Carpentry. I intend to hire him again for future projects. A+++++

The first time that I used Jay-Quin contractors was about 15 years ago when they did cement work for me. They did my patio, driveway, steps and sidewalk. None of the cement work has ever cracked which is why I called them for my next job. They did the retiling of my downstairs bathroom. The work was flawless and I never needed to call them back for anything. The next job was in my kitchen. They installed a new kitchen countertop and installed the new appliances. They also painted the kitchen. The next job was to remove the bathtub in the master bathroom and to put in a shower. The work that they did was outstanding. They purchased tiles to match my bathroom tiles and installed a beautiful mosaic in the shower. You would never know there was a bathtub in the bathroom. They also removed paneling from the two smaller bathrooms and smoothed out the walls and painted the rooms. Friends who have seen the rooms cannot tell there was ever paneling in the two bedrooms. I also wanted a light and a ceiling fan in each room. That was also done. The most amazing thing about Jay-Quin is not only the magnificent work that they do, but they never leave dirt around to clean up. They vacuumed every day and cleaned up as much as they could. I would never consider using any other contractor for any work in my home. The workers are extremely nice. They work as fast as they can and their work is precise. This is an amazing company and I would never think of hiring anyone else to work in my home.

We were so excited his guy cleaned our kitchen floor from tenants that probably hadn't cleaned the floor in years and it came back to life. I was shocked I didn't have to replace the floor to put the house on the market. Thank you!

As the owner of several multi unit properties I have called upon Pride Development & Construction for numerous projects to include installing roofs, replacing windows & beam replacement. PD & C has also done complete apartment renovations to include painting, kitchen cabinet installations & bathroom rehabs. Their work has always been of high quality & completed in a timely fashion. Unlike other contractors I've dealt with, they've always left my properties spotless and in move in condition. The most impressive part of PD & C is that the owner is an expert in all phases of construction and is readily available to answer my questions and to make recommendations on work that needs to be done. I have referred PD & C to many other property & homeowners.

Joe undertook a complete gutting, renovation, and expansion of our kitchen and pantry, plus construction of an addition that included a bathroom and a 10x20 dining area/family room/office, plus construction of a new deck. This was at our residence in Rutherford, NJ. It was a very complex project that involved many stages and coordination with a number of subcontractors in addition to work with a designer. We had some particular, unusual requests and when the kitchen was gutted there were some perplexing surprises. Through it all, Joe did an excellent job. He was very careful and thought a lot before he acted; he had very high standards and really wanted everything done right; he was very considerate of our needs; he was an excellent communicator and always answered all of our questions and concerns and always texted back promptly. We were never left in the dark; if there was a delay, we always knew what was going on. He really didn't forget things that had to be done; he always always reminded himself before we had to. He was able to deal with the unusual problems we had very well and also helped us out by doing a few unrelated jobs that came up suddenly. When changes had to be made, his charges were reasonable. We also really liked his subcontractors and thought he worked with them well. Joe always came when he said he would. Joe really did go above and beyond and added some very nice touches which made a big difference, like a hand-made radiator cover for our steam radiator. Or when he saved us hundreds of dollars in freight costs by going to pick up our butcher block himself. Overall, what impressed us most was how resourceful and knowledgeable Joe is. This job took eight months, and it was overall a pleasant experience mostly because Joe is a thoughtful, considerate guy.

Technorama Plus is the best contractor I’ve ever worked with. We used them to completely remodel our kitchen and we were very happy with the results. Even our friends and our architect were impressed with the quality of their work. Technorama Plus is everything you want in a contractor: They do excellent work, pay attention to detail, make helpful suggestions on how to make a project better or more cost-effective, and always aim to make the customer happy. They’re very professional: they’re reliable (they would never leave a job half-finished), they come on time, and they clean up after themselves. They are now our go-to contractors. They’re a pleasure to work with: they’re pleasant and very responsive. They take pride in their work—and it shows!

    About

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

    • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
    • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
    • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
    • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
    • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
    • Ductwork properly protected.
    • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

    • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
      • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
      • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
      • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
    • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
    • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
