After moving myself (with the help of some friends) within Manhattan for my two previous apartments, I decided to make things easy for myself and hire movers. Since it was my first time, I was pretty anxious -- I've heard some serious horror stories regarding other moving companies. I contacted a few companies for quotes two weeks before my move, and Excellent Quality Movers was by far the cheapest. Jack responded to my inquiry quickly and accurately, answering any questions I had. I moved from a studio apartment (one-floor walkup) in Times Square to a one-bedroom loft (two-floor walkup) on the Upper West Side. The day of the move, a man named Alex and his two crew members arrived pretty close to on time (about 15 minutes late, but totally understandable considering they were driving/parking a truck in Times Square!). They introduced themselves, had me sign some papers and got down to business. It's amazing what a three-person crew can do -- they pretty much acted like a well-oiled machine. The move out only took about 20 minutes. They actually beat me to the new apartment, and when I arrived, I saw that they already started unloading. There was definitely no dillydallying on their end. They carefully brought everything up and asked specifically where they should drop off each item in the apartment, which I greatly appreciated. Whenever I offered to help them out with something, they told me not to worry about it. When they were done, I signed another form, paid in cash and tipped each guy for a job well done. The entire move from start to finish only took about an hour and 15 minutes! (Though it should be noted that they have a three-hour minimum charge). I highly recommend Excellent Quality Movers. They were fast, efficient and professional. I certainly plan on using them in the future but hopefully that won't be a for a good while. Moving is certainly a pain, but this company definitely made the process a bit easier! PS - FYI, they charge $10 extra to wrap up your mattress in heavy-duty plastic wrap.
