I’m a classically trained pianist (with masters in classical piano) who works in contemporary music – rock, pop etc. I teach a broad range of skills and music. Whatever you want to play I can help! I’m well versed in other keyboards (organ and synthesizers) and their use in modern music. I have 10 years of experience teaching kids age 5 through adult. Additionally, I’ve worked with many students with autism and have developed creative and personalized approaches to teaching. Above all, I always strive to provide a warm and encouraging environment.
Watching students master skills they didn’t know they would be able to is such a special part of teaching. I love to see people’s expressions when their hands actually do what they want them to do and they hear themselves play a piece or song they’ve always wanted to play.

I loved my lessons with Sarah!! She is so attentive to what I want to get out of the lessons. In addition, she’s always looking to help me improve my technique and musicality in my playing. She also makes musictheory FUN. I never thought I would say that but it’s true. I highly recommend Sarah for anyone wanting to learn music!!

Sarah has been an absolute god send to our family. I take lessons from her as well as both my children. She is an incredible pianist and puts so much effort into customizing lessons for each of us, AND keeping the kids engaged, laughing, and inspired over Zoom. I'm interested in blues and ragtime music, one of my children in classical, and the other just wants to play pop music. She is a master in all these styles, and is able to teach theory and technique concepts through music we love. In addition to being an absolute dream of a teacher, she is also super organized, responsive, understanding, and nice. We couldn't recommend her more highly - thank you SARAH for being the highlight of our week.

Sarah is the best. She is compassionate, encouraging, and best of all she is supremely talented as a musician and teacher. I would recommend Sarah for piano or keyboard lessons to anybody. She tours the world with hugely popular bands, but she is very down to earth. She is patient and an amazing teacher. Simply could not recommend her enough.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Payment is requested before the lesson begins - thank you!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always suggest a trial lesson with a new student so that you can see if I am the right fit for you. At our first lesson we'll chat about the music you love and what made you want to start taking lessons. If you've played in the past I'll ask you to play something for me. We'll chat about your goals and I'll make some book/song/piece recommendations from there! If you'd like to keep working together, I'll create a progressive plan for you that incorporates a broad range of music and material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in musicology from Boston University and in Piano from Mannes The New School for Music. But a lot of my important education came from less formal sources - whether it was an Appalachian fiddle course from a pro fiddler in NC or gospel piano lessons I took with a pastor in OH. Also, a lot of my education has also just come from playing with a ton of bands and working in the industry (more info on my website if you're interested in that!)
