He knows an astonishing amount about proper vocal technique and vocal pedagogy. His voice range is large enough to work with virtually any male or female. He can actually sing! That is huge. Please don't hire a voice teacher that can't sing or is consistently off-pitch. Singing is as much mental/emotional as it is physical. Dan cares about your emotional state as much as your singing and he makes audio clips during the lesson so that you can practice on your own. The lessons are done in a professional voice studio. This will be the best voice teacher that you find in NYC, period.Jul 20, 2018Verified
Taking voice lessons with Dan has been such an amazing experience for me. I am a beginner, and had never taken singing lessons before. I am also very shy, and get very nervous around people that I don't know. Working with Dan has definitely been helping me with that. I have been working with Dan for a little over a month now, and I can say that I am truly grateful to have found him. He is very talented, knowledgeable, and patient. Dan allows you to take voice recordings of the lessons which is amazing because you can always go back to them on your own time, and continue practicing. I also loved that he plays the piano, and also plays the guitar, and changes it up while you practice singing with him in the studio. His lessons are so much fun. I look forward to every, and the many more lessons!Jun 7, 2019Verified
Dan's vocal coaching has - and this is not hyperbole - seriously changed and improved my life. I came to Dan as a young recording artist who lacked prior proper training, and Dan crafted a unique, comprehensive plan to help me reach my singing/performing goals - as he does with all of his students. From the very beginning, he has supplied me with all the techniques necessary to flourish as a singer - and he's also just a blast to hang out and sing with. Dan's knowledge of the craft is certainly undisputed, and yet he is able to impart these techniques in a friendly way, which meant I looked forward to every lesson. As we worked, Dan created an incredibly helpful, original set of recordings for me to take home and on the road. These have been quintessential in my practicing, and I will continue to use them as guides and warm-ups for years to come.May 29, 2019Verified
Singing Lessons (for adults)
Very friendly, very knowledgeable in all aspects of the human voive and how to maneuver/train your muscles in order to achieve your maximum singing capacity. Im only three lessons in, and I have learned so much! He makes sure 110% that you fully understand everything he teaches and that you're comfortable enough to practice inside and outside the studio with accuracy. Whether you know nothing about singing or want to learn a few more things, Dan is your guy without a question or hesitation!!Mar 6, 2017Verified

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Constantly. I'm constantly reading scientific studies on the voice, talking to other well-known voice teachers and vocal scientists, as well as professional singers, to keep up with new developments, methods, and discoveries in the world of singing and voice training. We're living in an exciting time for voice training! New techniques and approaches are being discovered and developed all the time! Many singers (and that includes a lot of teachers) tend to rely on what they already know and have had success with, but to be truly great at something, a person needs actively keep plugged in to new advancements in their field. That's something I do, very actively.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I began voice training in my teens, and as I learned more, I started coaching some of my friends who were singers but couldn't afford to take lessons. I found that not only was I surprisingly good at it, but I really loved it. So while I was studying in college, I began teaching professionally, and have never stopped. 20+ years later, I still get excited every time I help a student make a breakthrough. I've never had any other job in my adult life, and I've never needed to. (:
- What types of customers have you worked with? All types. In my 22+ years, I've taught women and men, adults/teens/children/senior citizens, complete beginners, seasoned professionals, and all levels between. My singers' genres and interests have run the gamut of Pop, Rock, Classical, R&B, Jazz, Metal, Musical Theater...you name it. A great voice teacher knows how to change his or her approach to each singer's specific needs and goals. Every person I've ever taught or coached has come with their own specific interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses, physical quirks and emotional circumstances. Each and everyone one of them required a different approach, and I find adjusting my style to my singers' needs to be challenging and invigorating. It's one of the many reasons why I still love doing this after over 22-years: it's never boring. ;)
