Introduction
I am a professional singer, songwriter, guitarist, and experienced music educator. I teach students how to unlock their creative expression through science-based vocal technique, guitar, and songwriting coaching. My special passion is to teach students to write original songs that express the important things they want to say. Book a lesson today to get started! Whether you’re a beginner singer looking to explore your voice or a seasoned songwriter looking for in-depth feedback, it would be my honor to help your musical creations soar! Before starting my private teaching studio in 2020, I was a lead teacher at Free Spirits Music Songwriting School, where I taught students of all ages how to move beyond fear and stage fright to tap into the power of their unique voice. With my students, I have co-written 200+ songs, some of which have even been recorded and released on Spotify, Apple Music, and more! My style of teaching is highly personal, uniquely adapted to each student, and welcoming of all levels (there’s nothing I love more than the courageousness of a new student diving into making their voice heard!) Whether you are a beginner of any age, looking to gain basic skills and a fundamental understanding of writing lyrics, playing chords, or exploring voice & guitar, or an advanced player ready to take a next step in your musicianship, I would love to help you take your songwriting to the next level through gentle support, engaging materials, and deep commitment to your musical journey. Book a lesson today through my booking form or reach out to learn more! *****I offer lessons in person at my teaching studio in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, or virtually over Zoom***** More about me: Originally from San Francisco, CA, I moved to New York City in 2010 to complete a B.A. at NYU in Comparative Literature. My love of reading poetry and fiction is lifelong, and is the basis of my lyric-writing instruction. While at NYU, I performed regularly at storied songwriting venues such as The Bitter End, The Sidewalk Cafe, and Zinc Bar. After graduation, I studied harmony, music theory, voice, and guitar performance through private instruction with teachers such as Theo Bleckmann and Tal Yahalom. I have completed Levels I-III of Somatic Voicework(TM): The LoVetri Method. As a professional singer I have recorded 2 critically acclaimed albums and appear as a featured guest on other bandleaders’ compositions. I've toured in the US and Europe, and perform regularly in New York City with different bands and projects and venues like The Lincoln Center, Rockwood Music Hall, The Owl, and more. I am deeply passionate about singing and songwriting as an art form, and am so excited about sharing this beautiful craft with others.

I've never taken voice or songwriting lessons before, but Caroline helped me feel at ease during our lessons. During the lessons I've had so far, we worked on vocal exercises and practicing a song that I wrote. I also found it really helpful to have a keyboard to play on and a microphone to try out because I've never performed singing solo before. Whether or not you have prior musical experience, I would recommend Caroline for your singing and songwriting needs!

Last year I took lessons with Caroline to improve my songwriting skills and work on my music with her. It's been such an inspiring journey and I cannot thank her enough for how much she helped me. I've been finally able to approach the process of writing with so much more pleasure and curiosity. And she also gave me great input on my guitar picking technique!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

As a vocal instructor, I am certified in Somatic Voicework ™ The LoVetri Method (Currently: Level I, working towards my Level II & III certification to be completed July 2023). Before starting my private teaching studio, I was a lead teacher at Free Spirits Music, a songwriting school in Brooklyn where I received extensive teacher training in songwriting, age-appropriate instrument instruction, and overcoming emotional blocks to allow students' voices to be heard! I have a B.A. from NYU in Comparative Literature, with a focus on teaching music as cultural history and heritage.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with students from age 4 all the way to adults! Most of my current singing and songwriting students are adults who are looking for science-based approaches to safely exploring vocal practice and a caring, supportive instructor who is invested in their success.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A recent student wrote an original song in honor of her son's wedding, and performed it for him on voice and guitar. Together, we worked on finishing the song through storytelling prompts and rhyme scheme exercises. Then, we zoned in on the vocal and guitar performance to make sure she was feeling confident and ready to share this beautiful gift!
